Some places we've been and some places we're going.

Everyone here, locals and visitors alike are absolutely delighted with the weather, it’s been sunny and warm ever since we arrived in Scotland but any winds that spring up are coming from the North Pole so are chilly. We decided to take a walk into some nice woodland and were surprised to come across a collection of houses so investigated them. One cluster was called, “Druid Temple Courtyard” but there was absolutely no sign of any old Druid buildings. There was also another cluster near a big villa called, “Magdalen”.

The land these houses are built on was originally part of a golf course and I’m sure for most the views would have been an incentive to build there. This is the view they have now from ground level.

The new view

The golf course is now only 9 holes with a Driving Range and short game practice area beside it. Lots of tracks meander between the Golf Course and the woodlands.

The walk back to our accommodation took us past the Driving Range and this sign.

Alex sister, Lena, told us that The Three Witches pub in Slackbuie had an excellent range of GF food on their menu so we went to check it out. We only wanted a drink but at a table nearby we saw a mountain of food served to one man and were gobsmacked when the plate was taken away with not a skerrick of food left on it. I think he must have been a hard worker.

I was hoping we’d find out how the pub got its name but we didn’t.

Scotland has a lot of stories about witches and witchcraft and they’re not the kind you’d find in a children’s book.

When we got WiFi access I found this info online:

“On the 8th of March 2022, Nicola Sturgeon issued a formal apology from the government to all those tried as a Scottish witch. A large part of that was thanks to the campaigning of the Witches of Scotland group, although they don’t consider the job quite finished. The next two steps are an official pardon and a national memorial for those accused of witchcraft.”

Astonishing!

We’ve never had such a welcome and goodbye from a shopping area as this one. There just happened to be a place selling coffee so Scarface decided to have one.

As I walked across an area near our lodgings I noticed a Grey-backed Seagull sitting on top of a light pole. When another one took offence to me walking past I presumed the post sitter must have been nesting. A couple of minutes later as Alex walked across it looked very funny seeing the Gull swooping down again and again, luckily it didn’t hit the target. The nest wasn’t on top of a pole, it was quite near where I was standing beside a building.
