Lineage (Korean: 리니지) is a pioneering massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by NCSoft. First launched in 1998, it helped define early large-scale online fantasy worlds, particularly in South Korea. Set in the medieval realm of Aden, the game centers on player-led “blood pledges” (clans) that compete for territory, prestige, and control of castles through scheduled siege battles.
Presented in an isometric perspective, Lineage features fast-paced combat, character progression through hunting and crafting, and a well-known item enhancement system. Core elements include open-world PvP, meaningful death penalties, and a player-driven economy.
