211 Day

Celebrating 211 Day Across Canada

Every year on February 11 (2/11), communities across Canada come together to recognize 211 Day, a moment to celebrate a simple idea with powerful impact: help should be easy to find.

211 is a free, confidential service that connects people to community and government supports, from housing and food to mental health, employment, and crisis assistance. Available 24/7 across the country, 211 helps individuals and families navigate life’s challenges with guidance from trained, compassionate Navigators who know local systems and services.

Why 211 Day Matters

As communities face growing pressures such as rising costs, climate-related emergencies, housing instability, and mental health needs, 211 plays a vital role as a front door to care and support. Each year, hundreds of thousands of people reach out to 211 by phone, text, chat, or web, seeking trusted information and real-time guidance when they need it most.

211 Day is also a moment to recognize the people behind the service, including the Navigators, data teams, and partners working every day to ensure support is accessible, accurate, and responsive to community needs.

United Glow: Lighting the Way to Help

As part of United Glow, a national initiative led by United Way Centraide Canada, landmarks, buildings, and monuments across the country light up in 211 red on February 11. These illuminations serve as visible reminders that help is always within reach, just three digits away.

Behind every red glow is a real story:

  • a family finding housing support,
  • a newcomer accessing language services,
  • a senior breaking social isolation,
  • a young person reaching out for mental health support.
