Johan Schubert wins first OK Dinghy World title for Denmark in 46 years

The OK Dinghy World Championship concluded Friday with two spectacular races at Skovshoved, Denmark. The challenging wind conditions of the week were forgotten with two perfect races in 12-18 knots and some great downwind sailing. Johan Schubert, from Denmark, won both races to become the first Danish OK Dinghy World Champion since 1980. Wannes van Laer, from Belgium also had a great day to move up to second while Britain’s Matt Howard took the bronze.

Weather wins in Skovshoved – no racing on penultimate day

No racing was possible on the penultimate day of the 2026 OK Dinghy World Championship at Skovshoved, Denmark, with bad weather – actually almost every kind of weather except snow – on Thursday. Sweden’s Niklas Edler will lead into the final day from Denmark’s Johan Schubert and Pim van Vugt, from the Netherlands with just two races possible on Friday. 203 boats from 14 nations and taking part.

Niklas Edler takes lead at OK Dinghy worlds

Sweden’s Niklas Edler has taken the lead at the 2026 OK Dinghy World Championship at Skovshoved, Denmark, after the opening series concluded on Wednesday with two great races in some challenging conditions with wind from 10-26 knots. Denmark’s Johan Schubert moved up to second while Pim van Vugt, from the Netherlands moved up to the third. The race wins went to Edler, van Vugt, Schubert and Britain’s Matt Howard.

Variety is the spice of life

Only one race was sailed on the second day of the 2026 OK Dinghy World Championship at Skovshoved, Denmark, on Tuesday. Incoming thunderstorms meant an early end to the day after a breezy third race. Wannes van Laer from Belgium is leading the fleet ahead of Niklas Edler, from Sweden, in second while Denmark’s Johan Schubert is third. The race wins went to Edler and Germany’s Stefan Hoffmann. 203 boats from 14 nations are taking part.
