On the first Wednesday of every month, the Civil Defence Warning alarm is sounded at midday. The Parisians are used to this so they might not even notice it, but for unsuspecting tourists it might be a little unsettling to hear if you’re not aware of this.

We have a similar thing here on first Mondays…for the power plant. It’s a really really loud siren and there are several throughout the nearby areas.
