At least 129,000 public and workplace chargers

To accelerate the deployment of charging stations in California, the California Energy Commission (CEC) awarded the Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) funding to create CALeVIP, which offers city and regions incentives to install charging infrastructure to serve light-duty vehicles. In 2021, the CEC awarded an additional $30 million to expand the CALeVIP program. The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has also approved various EV charging infrastructure incentive programs through the state’s electricity providers, providing rebates and other discounts. From 2025-2029, electricity providers in California will be able to access up to $1 billion in funding to support EV charging incentive programs. In December 2022, the CEC approved an additional $2.9 billion investment plan for zero-emission transportation infrastructure, including $900 million for light-duty vehicle chargers.

California is currently dedicating billions of dollars toward clean transportation options. Charging infrastructure has received its own allocation of nearly $2 billion from the state legislature to increase the number of chargers on the road to meet demands for state clean transportation goals
