Opening the Doors to the University of Minnesota AI Hub. If AI is shaping the future, how should it treat the planet?
The University of Minnesota AI Hub is here, and we want to start off on the right foot: with transparency and open dialogue.
We are building the AI Hub to advance research, workforce development, and responsible AI across Minnesota. Before we dive into our work, we’re inviting the campus community inside the conversation. Join us on April 22nd from 8:30 AM to Noon at Walter Library, Room 101 for an open house event. Grab some coffee and a donut while you learn how AI is being used for environmental research, ask the tough questions about energy and water use, and share your ideas for building technology that respects our planet.
What to expect at the event:
Local honey for our coffee, provided by The Bee Squad
Native wildflower mixes, provided by Minnesota Native Landscapes (MNL)
Live demos of small models running locally on modest hardware to contrast the energy footprint of massive cloud models like ChatGPT by the team at the AI Makerspace
We are here to listen. Whether you join us in person to explore research through posters and shared materials or submit your questions in advance through our site, we’re creating space for open conversation and curiosity. Questions addressed during the event will also be answered and posted on our website to ensure your voice is heard as we build the foundation of this hub.
