Holy Shit. I just got a robocall in support of the racist Holocaust denier GOP candidate John Fitzgerald of CoCo County, claiming that Jews are taking over the world "and must be stopped." It was easily the most racist political ad I've ever come across in the Bay Area.

Nice. But if they truly want to honor Oakland, then they'd pay the $40 million they owe for refurbishing Oracle Arena.

I’m not going to vote for Bloomberg, unless he’s the nominee. But I sure wish the other Dem candidates would go after Trump as strongly and decisively as he does.

Personal/Career News: I’m voluntarily going on an extended hiatus from journalism soon in an attempt to help save a journalism organization about which I care deeply: Telegraph Media, which publishes @EastBayExpress, Oakland and Alameda magazines, and The East Bay Monthly. 1/

Seems like this should be getting a lot more attention: The A’s are going to be paying ZERO rent in Sacramento! Pretty damn hard for Oakland, which still has debt service on the Coliseum complex, to compete with that kind of sweetheart deal.

Just got a text poll, with several questions asking if I'd by OK w/ changing the name of Oakland Intl. Airport to San Francisco East Bay Area Intl. Airport. (Reason given in the poll was that out-of-area travelers supposedly don't know where Oakland is.) My Answer: HELL NO!

Woah. The SF Chronicle ran a full-page ad today that bashes homeless people with obvious mental health issues. And if that were not bad enough, it was paid by an anonymous donor that calls her group, Fed Up Populace Campaign -- a shady org that doesn't have a website. Ugh.

Really unbelievable that a SF billionaire funds a winning campaign to tax himself to help unsheltered people, and the city's mayor and state senator who claim to care about affordable housing come out on the losing side.
Prop C’s victory means the homeless will have a home & the help they truly need! Let the city come together in Love for those who need it most! There is no finish line when it come to helping the homeless. Thank you amazing supporters of Prop C!

Got my CA recall election ballot guide today. Very telling that folks who want to recall Gov. Newsom made no mention of vaccines, masks, lockdowns or anything COVID related in their official argument. No mention of French Laundry either. What are they most mad about? Immigration

Dear East Bay progressives, This is how gentrification really happens: When wealthy folks in single-family neighborhoods (looking at you, Rockridge and North Berkeley) refuse to allow new housing in their areas and insist that newcomers and new housing go in low-income zones.

Don’t blame NIMBYs. Seattle has more than enough capacity, with no upzones, for all anticipated growth. Issue is not lack of supply of developable land, it’s pressure to cram more into higher profit areas that are full
