Glad to see the Pope got his $8.65 back. Other Americans deserve the same chance to reclaim their property. States can seize and liquidate investments simply because an account appears inactive. Congress should pass my bipartisan SAFER Act and stop this state-sanctioned theft.

His bank may have hung up on Pope Leo last month, but no phone was needed today at the Vatican. Treasurer Frerichs presented Pope Leo with an I-Cash claim for $8.65, proceeds from an abandoned PayPal account the Pope left in Illinois.

Pacifica began demolition Tuesday of a beloved cafe on a city pier that is crumbling into the sea. The demolition of the cafe, which engineers deemed necessary “to prevent it from falling into the ocean,” raises concerns about the future of the pier itself.
