    We cannot rely on people not being racist. We must redistribute their power so they cannot cause as much harm. We must dismantle the prison industrial complex, and we must do so much more.

In the memory of George Floyd and so many others, we at Pilot stand in solidarity with everyone taking actions that help redistribute power.

At Pilot, we will continue to seek justice by:


1. Building an inclusive team that reflects the diverse communities we live in, and specifically investing in strong representation by black employees at all levels of leadership.
2. Hiring people with felony convictions, for which black men disproportionately face employment discrimination.
3. Helping peer companies build their own diverse and inclusive teams, and holding each other accountable to our commitments and outcomes, for black employees and all employees of color.
4. Participating in grassroots actions to dismantle the prison industrial complex and distribute power back to our communities.

    The killing of George Floyd by a police officer was not new or isolated. Nor was the killing of Breonna Taylor. Nor was the killing of Philando Castile. Nor was the killing of Eric Garner.

Justice for George, Breonna, Philando, Eric, and so many others requires not just accountability for the police officers who killed them — it requires vast systemic changes to end the brutalization of black people and the commoditization of black bodies. This is about not only police, but prosecutors and judges, politicians and corporations, and the outsourcing of a community’s responsibility to care for its people. This is about the prison industrial complex, housing and school segregation, environmental justice, and racial capitalism.

Police officers can continue to kill black people so long as they have the power to do so. Politicians can continue to compromise on the needs of their underserved communities in exchange for maintaining power, so long as they have the power to do so. Heads of corpo
