The outrage surrounding #MedBikini is justified. At the ROOT of this, is the idea that all surgeons should ‘conform’ to a predetermined definition of surgeon. This puts women, BIPOC, religious & gender/sexual minorities at significant disadvantage in Academia

In 1978 there were 1410 Black male applicants to medical school, in 2014 only 1337. In 1978, 542 Black men graduated from US medical schools, in 2014 it was 515. This is the work we must do! We can’t go backwards! @AcademicSurgery @SocietyofBAS
