Site update: we have 250 posts left to set of 1,000 stories, poems, essays, reviews, columns. The new site is designed; we are backfilling. Thanks for your patience. It’s a better site. We hope to relaunch early summer. We’ll be contacting each contributor with their piece(s).

I changed our Twitter profile to reflect that we pay writers. I’ve always thought, No, don’t put that, that’s crass. But u know what? We paid writers $2,645 last year. Like, real money. It wasn’t easy. We’re proud of it. We’re proud of being a paying market for almost a year now.

We published someone who submitted 10 times before an acceptance. We frequently turn down past contributors whom we love. A previously unpublished writer just made our final round of consideration. What I’m saying is this is a subjective, wet-ass process. When it hits, it hits

Yes, submissions are open. Yes, we have money to pay writers. Yes, you should submit. Yes, I know it’s scary. Yes, we might reject you. Yes, our rejections come with respect & love. Yes, we might accept you. Yes, our readers are hungry for your genius. Yes, you are a genius.

Two words: Nigerian poetry. Three Nigerian poets have made our final round of consideration for recent submissions, & we’ve already published a number of Nigerian poets, incl. a BoN nom. The poetry coming out of that country rn is consistently profound & heartbreakingly beautiful

Being a writer is full of paradox. U gotta be the most sensitive creature to perceive & capture something way down inside u shifting infinitesimally, the thinnest sliver of emotion brought into recognition. But to publish, u gotta be tough af, almost numb, w/ skin like a rhino

A statement from all of us at trampset:

When writers say journals are out of their league, it tears me up. No journal is out of your league. You’re a writer, dammit! Drink some whiskey, deploy your words! It’s a great contradiction we’re all anarchists but defer to these awful literary hierarchies. I do it too. No more

Best thing about being an online lit mag editor in the 21st century is you get to work with people from all over the world. I live in this small rain-shadow town in Nevada yet am connecting writers & readers on almost every continent. It’s amazing, humbling. U all make it happen.

We hit 5,000 followers today. As just some random lit major who started a site, I’m damn grateful. No matter what happens w/ the journal in the future, I’ll always remember this as its best time—a dream team of editors & contributors making online lit culture real & impactful. Ty

Do we accept more women than men? Yes. Is that on purpose? Not really. Women are just killing it in the queue. Are women better writers than men? Maybe. In my experience, yes. Do I feel sad about that cuz I’m a man? No. Women will be ruling the Earth in 20 years. We had our shot.

Just so you know, if you publish with trampset, we’ll share your work in perpetuity. Pub day is great, but we’ll share forever. Win a Pulitzer? O yeah, we’ll reshare your work. Get written up in the national press for running thru your city naked? O yeah, we’ll reshare your work
