RFEF have now responded to criticism by releasing a statement "analysing Jenni Hermoso's body language" to claim that she wanted the kiss from Rubiales. This is a national football federation saying basically "the girl led our guy on". No words for how vile that is. None.

At this point FIFA has to step in because Spanish football is being held hostage & a women's World Cup is being used by a sexual assault perpetrator & his abusive coach mate to justify keeping their jobs. This is even worse than what was feared a Spain win would bring from RFEF.

Reminder Spain are in the World Cup Final under a coach who is abusive to his players to the point 12 of them refuse to represent their country because of him. The point should be made over & over again in next few days that Spain are in the final despite him, not because of him.

Mapi Leon, Patri Guijarro, Sandra Paños, Claudia Pina. Remember the players who stood firm. This should be their day too. But it was taken from them by the man who will now claim credit. This, for Spain, is the most Pyrrhic of victories.

We've just seen a man caught live on TV at the biggest match on Earth committing sexual assault blame the victim, refuse to resign & then get a standing ovation from the most powerful people in Spanish football. This is a dark, dark day for the women's game. For all of football.

Genuinely can't get over the fact hundreds of excellent women's football writers work unpaid & UK national papers pay some nonentity to write "I've not watched a minute of the Women's World Cup but here's why it's crap" two days before England play in the final. Just...why?

His players refused to interact with him even after winning a World Cup. He's called players standing up for fairer treatment "not committed to their country" Refused responsibility for every loss, taken credir for every win. This is so, so wrong.

Rubiales constantly attacking press and politicians about a witch hunt. Claims he will be taking legal action against members of government. His speech is passionately applauded by Jorge Vilda and Luis De La Fuente (Spain's men team manager).
