- Kids today have no idea the struggle we once faced. This is what adversity looks like.
- The game of football is officially broken. NIL, transfer portal, 6th year seniors, high school kids being offered money to play college ball or transferring 2-3 times between freshmen - senior year in high school, youth select travel teams, personal trainers making more money
- For the life of me I do not understand the select/club sports mindset. Why are we paying thousands of dollars to join clubs so kids can play on the bronze team, to travel to Topeka, to play another bronze team, to go 1-3, stay in a hotel, eat crappy food, while mom and dad
- For the life of me I do not understand why a select youth sports team from Seattle has to fly to Vegas or Atlanta to play in a 3-day tournament against teams from different states. Does it make you feel good to say, “we spent $2,000 in travel expenses to go 2-2 in tournament
- I heard a U13 select volleyball coach yelling at his team while the parents listened in. “You all need to take this seriously if you want to play collegiate volleyball. Stop screwing around with other sports. Focus just on volleyball year around.” The girls were all about 5’3
- My first year as a head coach. 1-9. My third year as a head coach. 9-1. It started with sophomores tired of losing. Commitment to the weight-room. Setting clear targets on little things like keeping the locker-room clean, 1st downs, good grades, simplifying the playbook.

- I’ve coached high school football for 30 years and have had ZERO parent drama…and I mean zero. How?? I established a simple rule day 1 of my coaching career. DURING the season, I will not talk to parents about their son’s playing time, position or the plays that are called.
