AI subscriptions are not cheap, never have been. They are just subsidized. Great analysis here that shows how real compute cost hides behind a flat monthly price. The model breaks when users actually use the tools. It's easy to guess the result: stricter limits, routing toReplying to @SemiAnalysis_Recently, we purchased one of each Anthropic/OpenAI subscription plan and randomly ran long horizon coding tasks until we exhausted the weekly limit. It's widely believed that a $200/month plan maxes out at ~$2000/month worth of tokens (assuming API pricing). However, we found
- Replying to @gonka_ai3/ Anthropic says this fallback affects less than 5% of sessions, but that’s exactly the point. When access is policy-defined, the provider holds all the cards. They decide which topics deserve full capability and when. You’re just a user operating within their boundaries.
- Replying to @gonka_ai2/ When the system flags topics like cybersecurity or chemistry, it silently routes you to a different compute path (Opus 4.8) instead of just refusing the request. You’re getting different rules, different capabilities, and different economics without any heads-up.
