Exaggerating Harmful Drug Effects on the Brain Is Killing Black People cell.com/neuron/fulltex… This is my open letter to @NIDAnews, drug researchers, practitioners of the politics of respectability, among others. You've got to do better b/c you're killing us.

Just had explosive interaction w/ @Columbia’s heightened security coming onto campus. They followed me to my office & then lied, saying I didn’t scan my ID for entry (I did) & I pushed an officer (I didn’t). An ugly scene followed. They did this to me, a tenured, full professor.

    Replying to @drcarlhart
This is not the first hostile interaction I’ve had since the new heightened aggressive, suspicious security policy. Imagine how they are treating our Black male students. Hey Pres. Shafik & politicians how about also being concerned about anti-Black hostility & discrimination?

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but no one should be required to go to treatment for merely using drugs, including alcohol, heroin, or LSD.
“Anybody who gets convicted of a drug crime, not one that is in terms of massive selling but consumption, they shouldn't go to prison. They should go to mandatory rehabilitation,” Joe Biden says

This breaks my heart. To prevent an athlete from competing for merely taking marijuana is cruel. We have to grow up, and quickly. Too many people continue to be harmed by our heedless adolescent policies and actions.
BREAKING: Sha’Carri Richardson has been suspended for one month after testing positive for marijuana. She says she used it in Oregon after finding out about the death of her biological mother from a reporter. Her participation in the 4X100-meter relay is unclear. #7news

⁦RIGHT NOW. ⁦@Columbia’s⁩ lockdown & faculty lockout by our administration as NYPD moves in. In this way, no one will be able to see the brutality against our students.

Breonna Taylor was murdered 1 yr ago today, as part of this society’s war on drugs. Despite such atrocities, the war on drugs rages on, because it is working swimmingly for select groups. The rest of us, let’s get justice for Breonna & end the war on drugs.

Over the past 2 days, I observed the student encampment @Columbia in-person. Media reports claiming students were anything but respectful, decent and the like are gross mischaracterizations that serve to criminalize our young ppl & put them at serious risk of harm.

This is precisely the nonsense I’ve been trying to combat my entire career. Drugs don’t give users superhuman strength. Complete BS designed to justify police brutality

Here's the clip of my recent appearance on CNN. Please remember that promoting awareness is NOT the same thing as promoting drug use.

Cannabis ok now. If the establishment lied to you about cannabis for decades, is it possible it has also lied to you about other drugs?

Chronic pain patients are often overlooked victims of the war on drugs.
@drcarlhart Thank you for speaking to the suffering of pain patients because of their inability to get opioids. Not enough is being said or written about this.

Dear Sha’Carri, You’ve got nothing to be ashamed of. Who among us haven’t altered their consciousness? We all have. Watching you perform and your reaction to winning, makes me proud to be a member your species. Sincerely, From one grown-up to another
