We will continue to post occasional updates on X. But the toxicity and bad faith interactions make this space a sad shell of what it used to be. We will be moving our engagement to Bluesky. #Bced and #bcpoli media, teachers, and others... follow us there. bctf.bsky.social

CUPE members in Ontario, your fight is our fight! Unions across Canada supported us in our battle to protect Charter rights and now we are here for you. Our Rep Assembly just voted to send you $1million so you don’t have to back down. @CUPEOntario @osbcucscso #onted #cdnpoli

    Replying to @bctf
Doug Ford’s use of the Notwithstanding Clause is an attack on all of us, union member or not. CUPE members are crucial to our schools and support kids in so many important ways. They need your support Canada. Stand up and fight back for all our rights. #cdnpoli #onted #bced

Huge thank you to the folks at Vitacore Industries, a BC company that manufactures PPE for frontline workers. They have donated 100,000 N95 masks to the BCTF. We will distribute the N95s to members who need them through our locals. Thank you! #bced #bcpoli vitacore.ca/about-us

The BC Conservative Party has released an education platform that shows a deep misunderstanding of public schools and what students in them need. #BCElection2024 #ITeachIVote #bcpoli #bced 1/9

After several days of marathon negotiation sessions this week, a tentative agreement between the BCTF and the #bced employer, BCPSEA, has been reached. Our Executive Committee is recommending the deal to the membership. An email with more info is on its way to members now.

We will be working with our #bced locals across BC next week to organize orange shirt walk-ins to honour the 215 dead children found at the Kamloops Residential School. We are also asking school districts to lower all flags to half-mast. #bcpoli

The combination of COVID19 pandemic and extremely poor wildfire air quality is deeply concerning for #bced. Teachers and students should not be in crowded classes with no ventilation or fresh air. #BCpoli, the employers, @CDCofBC and PHO need to provide advice and take action now

When Deputy Premier in 2002, this individual supported two bills resulting in layoffs of thousands of health care workers & teachers - the largest mass layoff of women in Canadian history.  Bills struck down as unconstitutional by @scc_en in 2007 & 2016. @PnPCBC #IWD2019
"If you're talking about 9,000 jobs and the attorney general is refusing to save them. I don't know. I think that's a pretty good argument to move the attorney general and find somebody who wants to support a growing economy," says @christyclarkbc #cdnpoli

Finally. Masks are now mandatory in all #bced schools in Grades 4-12. For K-3, they are strongly recommended. Thank you to those who have worked so hard to get this important safety measure in place. Teachers will be relieved to have this added layer of protection. #bcpoli

There will be several hundred thousand students in #bced elementary schools who are unvaccinated. Many thousands more in secondary schools will be partially vaccinated. We need more than vaccines to ensure schools are safe. We need masks, ventilation, and distancing #bcpoli ⬇️

The Omicron variant has changed the pandemic. It's more transmissible and has a shorter incubation. Safety measures in #bced schools must change too. Thousands of students remain unvaccinated and too many workers are waiting for boosters. The #bcpoli government must act. 1/6

The lifting of the #bcpoli mask mandate should have been postponed by one week until all #bced school districts were on spring break. The uneven approach between life outside school and inside classrooms will cause disruptions and add stress to teachers, support staff, and admin.

The #bcpoli government needs to respond swiftly to the ongoing surge of COVID19 in our communities and #bced schools, especially in Fraser Health. We're asking @jjhorgan and Ministry of Education to immediately order districts in the Fraser region to reduce class sizes to 15.
