I rlly don't get this. I mean I don't wanna complain bc most of the breeds I need breed change scrolls and genes for are ancients, but it just makes the times when I need modern scrolls so much more painful.
WHY are Ancient Breed changes/Genes half as expensive as moderns???? Like i get it, you buy an ancient scroll, that can only be applied to one type of dragon, but... scrolls are single use anyway. Either way, you're only getting to use that on one dragon, so what difference does it make? What is the reasoning for them being half as expensive, why wouldn't they both be the same price?
I mean this isn't me saying they should make ancient scrolls as expensive as moderns, far from it, (if aanything I think everything should be the ancient scroll prices but tee hee that's just the expensive taste on me talking) but still. I don't rlly get it.

@hyacinthbloom the reason ancient scrolls are less expensive than modern scrolls is that they are much, much less versatile than modern scrolls. (also because genes do more work for ancients since they can't wear apparel, i think)
modern scrolls aren't really intentionally "more expensive," since ancients are newer, modern gene prices are basically the Default Price For That Gene, and ancient versions are cheaper because they're less useful

Accents are equippable items that can be worn like a coat of paint on top of the skin of your dragon. The look of the accent will not be passed onto offspring and may be unequipped at any time. (Designed by legionqvq.)
@HyacinthBloom While the gene can still only apply to ONE dragon, as you say, if you breed change an Ancient, all their genes will reset to Basic. Thus meaning that you lose that gene scroll even if you wanted the same gene on the breed-changed dragon. Which means the devs decided that all their gene scrolls would be priced at a permanent discount. If Ancients reset to Basic each time and genes were full price, it's a lot less likely that people would engage with gene projects for them.
Moderns, on the other hand, can be freely breed changed from one Modern to another and retain all their genes. While you might put the scroll on a Guardian, if you changed the same dragon to a Wildclaw later, they'd still have that gene!

Ancient genes are cheaper because they are only usable for their specific breed.
Here is a post from the first ancient release, gaolers, where staff addresses why Bee was cheaper for them. Here is another post from the same thread of staff explaining that modern genes are not equivalent to the ancient specific versions.
So for example: Primary Gene: Savanna is the modern version of savanna. This can be applied to any modern dragon, and will be retained if that dragon was changed to another modern breed.
Primary Undertide Gene: Savanna is the undertide specific version of savanna. This can only be used on undertides, and cannot be used on any other ancient breed. Will not be retained if that undertide gets breed changed to any other breed, instead will be reset to basic and a new scroll would need to be applied to the new breed provided the new breed has that gene available to them.
So because they are more limited on their use, they are cheaper.
Ancients in general are more limited as well. They can't do everything a modern breed can. They cannot wear apparel, they can only breed with their own kind, and they can only use genes available to their breed- they have a much more limited selection of genes. It has less to do with them both being scrolls and scrolls being one time use anyway and more to do with how limited ancients are so it wouldn't be fair if their scrolls were as expensive as moderns because ancients cannot do the same things moderns can.
