Events for Writers

From professional development classes, to book fairs, to write-ins, to virtual members-only events, like our critique groups and lunch and learn, Writing Heights offers a packed schedule for writers every month.

Upcoming Events

Many writers worry about passive voice—but that’s often not the real problem. In this practical editor-led class, we’ll clarify what passive voice actually is (and when it works), then go beyond grammar to tackle the habits that make writing feel weak or indirect. Learn how to spot and easily revise common issues like “it was” openings, overused “to be” verbs, hidden actions, and vague sentence structures. Through examples and quick exercises, practice turning flat, passive-feeling sentences into clear, engaging prose. Leave with a simple revision checklist you can apply to your own work right away!

Finding time to write, edit, and market creative work can be challenging in our full modern lives—particularly for those with children at home. In this panel, experienced writing professionals who are also parents will share their practical, hard-earned strategies for making meaningful progress on creative goals amid constant demands. Ask your questions for the panel to discuss when you register.
