A letter from the Wewell team

Thank you for letting us read the label with you.

For five years, Wewell helped over half a million people understand what they put on their skin. Today, we are closing our doors — with a full heart, and more gratitude than a single page can hold.

We started Wewell with one stubborn question: why do we read the label on the food we eat, but not on the cream we leave on our skin all day?

So we built an app that could read it for us. Scan a barcode, and Wewell decoded the ingredients in seconds — flagging what might irritate, what was kind to your skin, and what simply did not belong there.

Half a million people picked up that habit and scanned right alongside us. That was never something we took for granted.

What we leave behind

Five years, measured in trust.

Wewell was, first and last, a consumer app — a free companion for the beauty aisle. These are the numbers we are most proud of.

What we made

Three ideas we will always be proud of.

Ingredient Analysis

We turned a wall of chemistry into a clear answer.

Every ingredient, explained in plain language — its origin, its irritation potential, whether it was kind to your skin and to the planet. Cosmetics are rarely safety-tested before they reach a shelf. Wewell gave that knowledge back to the person buying it.

Personalisation

Because no two skins read the label the same way.

A few thoughtful questions built a profile for your face, hair and body — then matched products to your unique skin chemistry. Less trial and error, fewer irritants, more of what actually worked.

The Scan & Marketplace

One scan in the aisle. A whole shelf you could trust.

Point your camera at any barcode and Wewell scored the product out of 100 — natural, synthetic and questionable ingredients, side by side. Paired with a marketplace of carefully chosen sellers, it made shopping for the right cosmetics genuinely effortless.

Goodbyes

A few thank-yous, said properly.

To our customers

You let us into one of the most personal parts of your day — the quiet minute in front of the mirror. You scanned in pharmacies, read our breakdowns on the bus, and trusted a small green app to tell you the truth about a bottle.

That trust was the whole company. Thank you for it. Keep reading the label — you already know how now.

To our investors

You believed in Wewell when it was a question and a prototype, long before there was a quarter of a million users to point to. You backed an idea about transparency and gave it room to grow across borders.

It did not end the way any of us hoped — but your faith was never wasted. It built something real, used by real people, and we are grateful you took the chance with us.

To our team

The engineers, designers, cosmetic chemists and data scientists who decoded 45,000 ingredients and obsessed over a single score out of 100 — you made Wewell what it was.

You should be proud. What you built reached the top of the charts and changed how half a million people shop. That does not disappear because the app does.

Wewell

We are not sad that it is over. We are grateful that it happened.

On behalf of everyone at Wewell

From everyone who scanned, coded, designed, researched and believed — thank you. Take care of your skin, and keep asking what is in the bottle.
