At their core, they are digital maps that connect <strong>entities<\/strong>, their <strong>attributes<\/strong>, and the <strong>relations<\/strong> between them. Even though knowledge graphs have existed as a concept since at least the 1980s, they have recently seen a renaissance thanks to <strong>Generative AI <\/strong> and the desire to build <strong>explainable AI systems<\/strong>. In such systems, knowledge graphs structure relations while large language models (LLM) process and communicate them in human language. Thereby, knowledge graphs improve the explainability and accountability of AI while translating complex data into clear strategic insights.<\/p>\n\n<style type=\"text\/css\" Knowledge Base<\/em> (SKB) of webLyzard is an evolving knowledge graph that integrates and aligns <strong>factual<\/strong> and <strong>linguistic knowledge<\/strong> from a wide range of domains into a single linked data graph. Tools for provenance management and access control facilitate its integration into a wide range of business and research applications. Many of these applications are time-critical. This challenge is addressed through a query abstraction and caching layer based on <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.elastic.co\/blog\/weblyzards-visual-exploration-of-sustainability-communication-with-elasticsearch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">ElasticSearch.<\/a><\/em> This distributed caching mechanism mitigates the performance bottlenecks of RDF triplestores and leads to radically reduced <strong>response times.<\/strong> It also allows us to provide a highly scalable <em>Application Programming Interface<\/em> (API). Through this <a href=\"https:\/\/api.weblyzard.com\/doc\/ui\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">API,<\/a> our customers can build powerful and responsive business solutions with minimal effort.<\/p>\n<h2>Knowledge Graph Applications and Evolution<\/h2>\n<p>The webLyzard Knowledge Graph drives most <em>Natural Language Processing<\/em> (NLP) tasks. This includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weblyzard.com\/recognyze\/\">entity annotation<\/a> tasks, for example, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weblyzard.com\/sentiment-analysis\/\">sentiment analysis<\/a> and more fine-grained <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weblyzard.com\/emotion-detection\/\">emotion detection<\/a>. It also is a crucial part of the query engine of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weblyzard.com\/visual-analytics-dashboard\/\">visual analytics dashboard.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weblyzard.com\/data\/sites\/21\/entity-list-weblyzard-dashboard.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-12644 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.weblyzard.com\/data\/sites\/21\/entity-list-weblyzard-dashboard.png\" alt=\"Knowledge Graph Entities - webLyzard Dashboard\" width=\"1788\" height=\"565\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Opinion Leaders for the Search Query &#8220;Artificial Intelligence&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Factual knowledge is derived from external and internal sources.\u00a0 Initially, we process <em>Linked Open Data<\/em> (LOD) sources such as <em>Wikidata <\/em>for <strong>organizations <\/strong>or <strong>persons <\/strong>and <em>Geonames <\/em>for <strong>locations<\/strong>. Our in-house information extraction pipeline then suggests new entity types such as <strong>events <\/strong>and <strong>anniversaries<\/strong>. To disambiguate these entities, the graph also contains linguistic knowledge such as spelling and syntactic variations and multilingual translations.<\/p>\n<p>State-of-the-Art <em>Artificial Intelligence<\/em> (AI) methods require large corpora for training purposes. Creating these corpora benefits from our team&#8217;s extensive experience in automated content analysis and media listening. As a result, the Knowledge Graph currently stores over <strong>2.5 million entities.<\/strong> And it is still growing, currently at a rate of about 500 entities per day.<\/p>\n<h2>Semantic Knowledge Base Editor<\/h2>\n<p>To interactively access and modify the entities of the Knowledge Graph, the <strong>SKB Editor<\/strong> provides an intuitive visual user interface for our customers and research partners. The embedded <strong>search <\/strong>supports a variety of filter options. Selecting an entity tile in the search results shows the entity&#8217;s metadata properties. This includes <em>language-specific labels<\/em>, <em>descriptions<\/em>, <em>alternate names <\/em>and <em>image thumbnails<\/em>. The role-based access control provides a safe and efficient way to specify and update all aspects of the Knowledge Graph.
