Celebrating 25 Years of Fáilte Feirste Thiar and a Quarter-Century of 
Tourism Growth in West Belfast

A special event was held this week in Áras Uí Chonghaile to celebrate a major milestone, the 25th anniversary of Fáilte Feirste Thiar, the organisation at the heart of west Belfast’s tourism transformation. The event brought together community champions, civic leaders, tourism partners and political representatives to mark the achievements of the past quarter century and look ahead to future opportunities. 

Speakers included the Minister for the Economy, Dr Caoimhe Archibald, who praised the leadership in transforming West Belfast into a thriving and internationally recognised visitor destination.

West Belfast Welcomes Record-Breaking Visitors

2024 was a milestone year for West Belfast, recording over 3 million visitor trips to our flagship attractions, green spaces and festivals, contributing an incredible £135 million to the local economy.

The remarkable increase in visitor numbers to West Belfast highlights tourism’s role as a powerful engine for local economic transformation. This growth reflects the success of strategic tourism development that capitalizes on the area’s rich heritage, vibrant local businesses, and strong community-led initiatives.
