UIS Highlights Key Achievements in 2024–2025 Report to UNESCO’s General Conference
The UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) presented its Statutory Report by the Governing Board on the Activities of the Institute (2024–2025), to the 43rd session of UNESCO’s General Conference in Samarkand. The report outlines major accomplishments over the biennium and reaffirms the UIS’s role as the official source of internationally comparable data to inform policy and monitor progress across UNESCO’s areas of competence.
Among the key highlights:
- Expanded global data coverage for SDG 4 (Quality Education), including learning outcomes for 148 countries and territories and new data on environmental education integration from 110 countries.
- Methodological innovations, such as the joint modelling of out-of-school and completion rates and the 2025 update of the UNESCO Framework for Cultural Statistics.
- Launch of major initiatives to build national capacity, including the LASER global report and country profiles, and the expansion of the Assessments for Minimum Proficiency Levels (AMPL) project, now active in 24 countries and translated into multiple languages.
- Strengthened global dialogue, marked by the first-ever UNESCO Conference on Education Data and Statistics, gathering over 400 participants from 130+ countries.
- Introduction of new user tools, such as the redesigned UIS Data Browser and the World Education Statistics series, offering a more accessible and interactive way to explore global education data.
The report also underscores ongoing efforts to enhance data use in policymaking, reinforce partnerships, and ensure long-term sustainability for the Institute’s operations.
