it started with cupcakes
“so how did you two meet?” my new coworker asked.
i glanced at my boyfriend. we’ve been together a year now, and every time someone asks that question… i dread it a little.
some love stories start off cute. bumping into each other in a bookstore. reaching for the same thing at the same time.
others are rooted in history. someone you’ve known forever.
but us?
we met in a strange, weird way that still makes me stop and think… yeah. this is our love story.
the night i met him, it was raining so hard most stores had already closed, worried about the roads flooding.
i was about to lock up my own shop for the same reason when he pushed his way inside.
completely soaked. slightly out of breath. a little desperate.
he asked if he could buy cupcakes. like… begged for them.
i told him we were closed. i really didn’t want to open the register again.
and then he blurted out,
“my dog hasn’t taken a shit in three days, and your cupcakes fix it every time.”
…
i just stared at him.
and then i gave him the cupcakes.
the next day, he came back.
and somewhere between the apology, the awkward smile, and the fact that he risked flooded roads for his dog…
i was hooked.
because sure, it wasn’t the sweetest meet cute.
but somehow?
it was ours.
fic filler for somehow, this became a love story.
i met him at (odd place)
