Big improvements to OMR and Zone OCR in SimpleIndex 11.4
If you have tried to do checkbox recognition with scanned forms, you are probably aware of how sensitive they are to any minor differences in the image. This is especially the case if they are not all scanned on the same device. Any shifting or skewing that happens moves all of the form fields, and if there are lines or text nearby, they can be misread as garbage text or false checked boxes.

There are also variable-length forms like Invoices, where data at the bottom may shift up or down depending on the number of items in a table. Because registration only impacts the fields that come after it, you can still capture header data easily when you use the registration to identify the footer.
SimpleIndex 11.4 solves these problems by introducing a simple (naturally!) way to account for form offsets. Just find a block of text that should always appear in the same position relative to form fields and set it as your “Zone Registration Field.” SimpleIndex will then use the full-page OCR to find the location of that text on each form, then adjust the following fields by how much it is offset from the original.
Has this feature been used in forms processing applications for decades? Sure it has! Do any of them have SimpleIndex’s low price and unique capabilities? Definitely not!
