{"id":282,"date":"2019-10-04T21:55:32","date_gmt":"2019-10-04T21:55:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.runyanprogramnotes.com\/program_note\/lord-rings-fellowship-ring\/"},"modified":"2025-04-02T20:14:25","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T20:14:25","slug":"lord-rings-fellowship-ring","status":"publish","type":"program_note","link":"https:\/\/www.runyanprogramnotes.com\/program_note\/lord-rings-fellowship-ring\/","title":{"rendered":"The Lord of the Rings:  The Fellowship of the Ring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The Lord of the Rings:\u00a0 The Fellowship of the Ring<\/em> was a spectacular success from 2001 (earning almost a billion dollars in world-wide distribution), and was nominated for thirteen Oscars, including Best Original Score.\u00a0 Composer Howard Shore is a native of Toronto, with ten Oscars, Golden Globes, and Grammys to his credit.\u00a0 In addition to film scores, he has written several concert works, including an opera and two concertos.\u00a0 A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, he has a background in jazz, and for a while was music director of Saturday Night Live, composing the theme for the show.\u00a0 A bit of trivia:\u00a0 apparently he suggested the title for the movie, <em>The Blues Brothers. <\/em>Of his eighty-something film scores, he is well known for <em>The Silence of the Lambs<\/em>, <em>Gangs of New York<\/em>, and <em>The Aviator.\u00a0 <\/em>But, his greatest success surely is that of <em>The Lord of the Rings:\u00a0 The Fellowship of the Ring<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Wm.
