Our mission is to protect public health and the environment by collecting, treating, and recovering resources from sewage.
Million People Served in the Sacramento Region
Miles of Sewer Pipe in Our Complex System
Million Gallons Per Day of Sewage Treated on Average

Wreck-It Wipes. Greasy Gunkster. Bossy Flossy, Oily Slug, Madame Mask, and Fatty Food Scraps.
Their goal? Total sewer system chaos.
But every hero has a role to play:
Only flush the 3 P’s and keep the rest out of the pipes.
Together, we restore balance to the flow.
🌌 May the 4th be with you… and your pipes.

This Public Service Recognition Week, we'd like to join the efforts spotlighting federal, state, and local public service workers by honoring our employees, who operate our systems 24/7 to serve more than 1.6 million people. Their hard work behind the scenes protects public health and the environment, and their expertise, dedication, and resilience strengthens our communities every day.

SacSewer is hosting an art contest, and we’re inviting students in grades 2–5 across public, private, charter, and home education settings to submit artwork.
Students are encouraged to create original artwork inspired by the core themes of Project AWE: Agriculture, Water, Energy, and the Environment. From illustrating the journey of water to exploring the role of agriculture or the importance of sustainable energy, students can translate real-world concepts into creative, personal expression.
This art contest builds on those same ideas, offering a meaningful opportunity for students to reflect on how these interconnected systems shape our communities and future—whether they’ve experienced Project AWE firsthand or are engaging with the concepts in the classroom.
Located at the historic Nicolaus Dairy near Elk Grove, Project AWE is a partnership between SacSewer and Sacramento Splash, providing an immersive, standards-aligned learning experience for grades 2–5. By blending local history with interactive lessons, the program fosters environmental stewardship and helps students better understand the resources we all depend on.
SacSewer looks forward to recognizing the winning students and classrooms, including a winning certificate and a highlight on SacSewer’s social media. Additionally, a likeness or artistic interpretation of the winning artwork may be used on a future mural project located at the Nicolaus Dairy.
For more information, including an Art Contest Toolkit, please visit our Art Contest webpage: https://www.sacsewer.com/art-contest-2026/
We look forward to seeing your students’ creativity!
Visitors can hike the miles of trails or enjoy tours of restored wetlands and oak forests on SacSewer’s Bufferlands. Throughout the day, you can get up close and personal with wild animals, enjoy live music, and check out conservation exhibits.

Today is National Drug Take Back Day. If you have unused or expired medications at home, now’s the time to drop them off for safe disposal.
Flushing medications can send trace contaminants into our waterways, where they can affect ecosystems and water quality. Taking a few minutes to dispose of them properly helps prevent that and supports the work we do every day to protect public health and the environment.
