href=\"https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/higher-education\/courses\/equine\/equinesciencebsc\/\">BSc (Hons) Equine Science<\/a> degree and\u00a0was awarded a prestigious internship\u00a0to visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arec.vaes.vt.edu\/arec\/middleburg.html\">Middleburg Agricultural\u00a0Research and Extension (MARE)\u00a0Center<\/a>, part of the Virginia Tech State\u00a0University, USA.\u00a0This university specialises in breeding\u00a0and producing top quality sports horses\u00a0and 21-year-old Charlotte trained in\u00a0veterinary techniques whilst assisting\u00a0with research into nutrition, reproduction\u00a0and parasitology. She also helped to\u00a0prepare young stock for the show ring\u00a0and ran educational outreach workshops\u00a0with children.<\/p>\n<p>Charlotte, who hails from Buxton in\u00a0Derbyshire, explained: \u201cThe internship\u00a0was a fantastic experience \u2013 truly life\u00a0changing. I was able to build on both\u00a0my academic and practical skills and\u00a0broaden my horizons in terms of my\u00a0knowledge of the equine industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aiming for a career as a veterinary\u00a0research scientist, Charlotte went on\u00a0to complete her Masters degree in\u00a0Animal Biosciences at the University\u00a0of Edinburgh and was then awarded\u00a0a funded PhD with The Royal (Dick)\u00a0School of Veterinary Studies, University\u00a0of Edinburgh to research canine\u00a0epidemiology and genetics.<\/p>\n<p>Charlotte added: \u201cI really\u00a0enjoyed studying for my degree\u00a0at Reaseheath.
