{"id":59212,"date":"2016-10-20T09:47:07","date_gmt":"2016-10-20T08:47:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/?p=59212"},"modified":"2016-10-20T16:37:54","modified_gmt":"2016-10-20T15:37:54","slug":"cover-crops-evaluation-revealed-reaseheath","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/cover-crops-evaluation-revealed-reaseheath\/","title":{"rendered":"Cover crops evaluation revealed at Reaseheath"},"content":{"rendered":"<section  class='av_textblock_section av-av_textblock-0366cc7376be6c9e82a3e9cc8987b64f '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>The evaluation of groundbreaking companion cropping trials, aimed at conserving the environment while improving land productivity, have been revealed at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\">Reaseheath College<\/a> in Cheshire.<\/p>\n<p>The trials, being held for the first time in the UK, have been run in partnership with machine manufacturer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poettinger.at\/en_uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pottinger<\/a>, agronomy company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agrovista.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Agrovista<\/a> and seed companies <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dlf.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DLF<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.germinal.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Germinal<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pioneer.com\/landing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pioneer<\/a>. The aim is to find the most viable companion crop, suitable for UK growing conditions, which will establish and maintain quality maize forage while responding to potential legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve plots of different varieties of grass, clover, vetch, peas and other legumes were sown under early maturing maize. Leaving soil bare under maize is not going to be an option for us in future.
