href=\"http:\/\/www.britishdressage.co.uk\/news\/show\/2524-timetable-released-for-the-byrds-symposium\"><strong>British Young Riders Dressage Scheme (BYRDS) Symposium<\/strong><\/a><strong> was held at <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/further-education\/courses\/equine\/\"><strong>Reaseheath College Equestrian Centre.<\/strong><\/a><strong> HE Module Leader and journalist <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelowedown.co.uk\/\"><strong>Jon Lowe<\/strong><\/a> <strong>reports.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n<section  class='av_textblock_section av-av_textblock-0366cc7376be6c9e82a3e9cc8987b64f '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>The schedule for the BYRDS Symposium, which was titled &#8216;Two Athletes \u2013 One Performance&#8217;, was packed-full of interactive presentations from a host of industry experts with topics ranging from sports science, rider psychology and training methods.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Janet Horswill <\/strong>is the Director of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.britishdressage.co.uk\/under_25s\"><strong>BYRDS<\/strong><\/a> and she explained that the event came to fruition after a focus group which was held during the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.britishdressage.co.uk\/\"><strong>British Dressage<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(BD) Under 25&#8217;s Championships in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suggestion for an annual convention aimed at BYRDS riders and their parents came from our own members,\u201d said Janet, who also chairs a BD technical committee responsible for the future development of the BYRDS group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDressage can be seen to be elitist and we are keen to break down those barriers; not all our members own &#8216;dressage&#8217; horses \u2013 we see a real variety of mounts which can range from Shetland ponies to Warmbloods\u201d.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><\/div>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n<div  class='avia-video av-av_video-a8188e9039a414c283bcff00bef8a598 avia-video-16-9 av-no-preview-image <strong>Kerry Comb<\/strong> (BVMS, MRCVS) from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ashbrookequinehospital.co.uk\/\"><strong>Ashbrook Equine Hospital<\/strong> <\/a>to offer advice about sourcing potential dressage horses.<\/p>\n<p>Using a combined approach of discussion and demonstration, they addressed aspects such as conformation, gait analysis and the importance of temperament.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReaseheath Equestrian Centre is such a fantastic facility and with the valued support of our sponsors \u2013 Ashbrook Equine Hospital \u2013 I would like to hope that this sports psychologist with over 15 years of experience working with equestrian athletes &#8211; ran seminars for riders and their parents where she discussed the benefits of using sports on the role of the pelvis in the correct alignment and effectiveness of a competition rider.<\/p>\n<p>The Symposium concluded with test riding demonstrations and a discussion with List 1 BD Judge,
