{"id":35752,"date":"2014-03-15T09:02:35","date_gmt":"2014-03-15T09:02:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/?p=35752"},"modified":"2014-10-31T09:09:48","modified_gmt":"2014-10-31T09:09:48","slug":"degree-students-inspired-by-zoological-evaluation-practices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/degree-students-inspired-by-zoological-evaluation-practices\/","title":{"rendered":"Degree students are inspired by zoological evaluation practices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> March, Cassandra Murray, Evaluation Coordinator from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zsl.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Zoological Society of London<\/a>\u00a0came to visit the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/subjects\/animal-management\/\">Reaseheath Animal Management Department<\/a> to\u00a0work with our second year FdSc Zoo Management students. Cassandra worked with students throughout the day focusing on the \u00a0importance of visitor surveys and how they can influence decision making within zoos. The students took part in lectures and workshops and created their own visitor survey. They carried out the survey on campus looking into what our current staff and students think of our zoo and how they would like to see it develop. The students are hopefully going to be carrying on with their visitor surveys during the Easter and summer holidays, to find out what the general public think of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/zoo\/\">Reaseheath Zoo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-35753 alignright\" alt=\"20140303_151427_resized_1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/20140303_151427_resized_1-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/20140303_151427_resized_1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/20140303_151427_resized_1-1030x772.jpg 1030w, https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/20140303_151427_resized_1-1500x1125.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/20140303_151427_resized_1-705x528.jpg 705w, https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/20140303_151427_resized_1-450x337.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/20140303_151427_resized_1.jpg 1632w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This research can then potentially be used to influence future decision making regarding the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/zoo\/\">Reaseheath Zoo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Visitor surveys are becoming common practice in zoos and \u00a0help influence decision making in a variety\u00a0of ways; from enclosure design to signage and the utilisation of \u00a0funding to name just a few examples. Visitor surveys can provide us with a sound basis for monitoring performance and are useful for future marketing planning and development.
