What is re_gent?
re_gent is version control for AI agents. It tracks what your AI coding assistant changes, why it made those changes, and lets you blame, log, and rewind agent activity across sessions. Think of it as `git` for AI-driven development.

Why do I need this? I already have git.
Git tracks files. re_gent tracks the agent conversations that produced those files. When an agent breaks something, re_gent shows you which prompt caused it and lets you rewind both code and conversation.

What's the long-term vision?
AI agents will write most code within 5 years. You'll have Agent A refactoring, Agent B writing tests, Agent C migrating databases. You review and merge their work. re_gent is infrastructure for that world — the git of agentic development.

Why can't I just use /compact or start fresh?
You can, but you lose history. /compact deletes messages. Starting fresh loses conversation. Both destroy the audit trail. re_gent captures everything in content-addressed storage. Even if Claude compacts, re_gent has the full record.
