About Us
WHO ARE WE?
Established in 1977, the Private Motor Truck Council of Canada (PMTC) is the only Canadian association dedicated to the interests of private fleet operators. The PMTC provides forums for fleet operators and industry stakeholders to exchange views and resolve issues together, and is at the forefront in representing your views to government, protecting your rights, and promoting your interests.
The PMTC is recognized as the voice of private trucking in Canada. We regularly field calls from trade press seeking PMTC opinions on subjects of interest to the trucking industry. PMTC President Mike Millian also has a monthly column in a leading industry magazine to promote the views of private carriers.
The PMTC provides tangible value in return for our modest membership fees. Members include fleet operators, equipment lessors, driver lessors and all types of suppliers to the private fleet community.
Many describe the PMTC as the best membership value in the Canadian transportation community.

The Private Fleet Advantage
The Private Fleet Advantage I read with interest, and to be honest, some anger, a recent opinion piece penned by longtime industry veteran, Mike McCarron. The article, entitled “The Private Fleet Creep”. https://www.trucknews.com/blogs/the-private-fleet-creep-how-to-turn-private-trucking-from-threat-to-opportunity/ I have a ton of respect for Mike; however, we do not always agree, and this is definitely one of those instances. Is there valid points and truths in the article, 100%. In the article it states Private Fleets have an advantage when it comes to drivers. There are many reasons for this, with the top of the list being the pay package. The majority of Private Fleets pay their drivers by the hour. According to our own benchmarking survey, 89% of Private Fleets surveyed also offer benefit programs that include dental, medical, driver wellness and others. Over 70% offer pension plans. The average driver's work week is 54 hours, much lower than the 60 to 70 that is common in long haul segments. Although the work week is lower, the max pay rate average across all the fleets was over $108k, with drivers in their 1st year making over $70k. 74% of these drivers are home every night, with only 8% being out more than 1 night a week. The pay package as well as a work environment that also allows many drivers to have quality home time is a clear advantage many private fleets benefit from when it comes to being able to recruit and retain drivers.

AGENDA ANNOUNCED FOR PMTC 2026 CONFERENCE AND AGM-REGISTRATION IS OPEN
AGENDA ANNOUNCED FOR PMTC 2026 CONFERENCE AND AGM-REGISTRATION IS OPEN Milton, ON: The Private Motor Truck Council of Canada has announced the full agenda & schedule for its 2026 Conference. “Each year those who attend the PMTC Annual Conference tell us it is one of the best educational and networking values they receive in the transportation industry. We believe this year's line up of speakers continues to build on that reputation”, says PMTC President, Mike Millian. While staying in Niagara Falls, we are changing locations to the beautiful Fallsview Casino Resort. New this year is a full 2-day event, as opposed to being spread out over 3 days, being held on June 16th & 17th. Feedback from sponsors & attendee's last year was in favour of moving to this format, & we wanted to ensure we followed through on our commitment to listen to feedback from our supporters! “ If interested in sponsoring or attending, don't wait, as we sold out of exhibitor space last year” The conference will kick off the morning of June 16th with the Annual General Meeting for the membership. A schedule of topics and events is listed below, and the full brochure with details, and registration is attached to this message, as well as up on the PMTC website at www.pmtc.ca. (Conference agenda & schedule subject to change without notice) This year's conference will take place at the Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls, On. Registration is now open. For more information and sponsorship opportunities, you may also email Annette Kieft at info@pmtc.ca, or call the office at 905-827-0587 x101.
