ASUS ROG XREAL R1 gaming glasses release date window, confirmed specs, and price speculation

 <dc:content>
One of ASUS's more compelling reveals at CES 2026 was the new ROG XREAL R1 gaming glasses. Although it's not the same as having a much bulkier, more powerful VR headset like the Meta Quest, these XR glasses aim to offer an immersive gaming experience nonetheless by letting you game wherever you are on a virtual screen spanning a massive 171 inches.

The project is a partnership between XREAL and ASUS ROG to develop the world's first pair of 240Hz XR gaming glasses. Now that they've been launched, we reveal all the release date, specs, and pricing details we know so far. CES is now over, and we're getting closer to launch, which has already been confirmed for the first half of 2026.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbIIPM7Lsrg
ROG XREAL R1 release date window

As revealed in XREAL's blog post announcing the R1, the XR specs are "expected to ship globally in the first half of 2026". So, while that doesn't pinpoint an expect date or month, it does narrow down launch for sometime between now and the end of June. Plus, it confirms an international launch rather than a US-only one, like we've already seen with Razer's new AI companion, Project AVA. So far, the XREAL R1 gaming glasses have been on shown off at CES 2026 at both the XREAL and ASUS ROG booths.

ROG XREAL R1 specs & features confirmed so far

The first thing we should note is that the glasses come bundled with the ROG Control Dock, which is an essential component to hook up the XR glasses up to your PC or console. The gaming glasses connect to the dock via a USB-C cable, and the dock offers multiple ports to unlock connectivity with your gaming hardware.
SpecificationROG XREAL R1Virtual screen size171-inch (from four meters away)ResolutionFHD (1920 x 1080)Refresh rate240HzResponse time0.01msPanel typeMicro-OLEDField of view57°AudioSound by BoseConnectivityUSB-C (wired) / ROG Control Dock with HDMI 2.0 (x2), DisplayPort 1.4 (x1)
Features include electrochromic dimming technology, which allows users to adjust the transparance of the lens to their liking. Auto-dimming allows the lenses to react to the environment and where the user is looking, behind more transparent when you look away from the virtual screen, and vice versa. Spatial audio supplied by Bose also offers 3D soundstage audio for a more immersive experience, while Anchor Mode gives users freedom to place the virtual screen anywhere in the physical world, or simply center it on their vision.

ROG XREAL R1 price speculation

ROG XREAL R1 pricing details are yet to be made official. However, we can compare them to the XREAL 1S XR glasses that launched and were instantly made available at CES 2026, priced at $449.00. These offer a higher 1200p resolution rather than the 1080p on the R1 glasses, with a cinematic 500" screen, albeit half the refresh rate at just 120Hz.

As a result of the gaming-focused specs on the XREAL R1, we may expect it to be priced a little higher than the 1S, especially when bundled with the ROG Control Dock, which also doesn't have a price set. For comparison, ASUS's ROG Bulwark, a 7-in-1 dock with support for HDMI 2.1, is priced at $139.99, but we can expect the Control Dock to be much cheaper, given its specs.

Is ROG XREAL R1 VR?

No, these gaming glasses shouldn't be classed as a VR headset. Instead, XREAL advertise them as "Iightweight XR hardware" (extended reality), which is an umbrella term that encompasses Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR). If we're going to be more specific, AR best fits the XREAL's capabilities, as it is rendering a virtual screen on top of your real-world surroundings, and the actual processing power is from the hardware you are connected to.

Can you use ROG XREAL R1 with the ROG Ally handheld?

ASUS says the XREAL R1 offers "zero setup with ROG Ally," which goes to say it's easy to plug and play with the popular handheld console. In this instance, the ROG Control Dock is not required, as the glasses connect directly to the ROG Ally via USB-C, rather than requiring an additional HDMI or DisplayPort input such as on a desktop gaming PC. To date, there have been a total of four ROG Ally handhelds, plus a few variations in specs. These including the original ROG Ally and ROG Ally Extreme, the updated ROG Ally X, and 2025's ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X models.
</dc:content>

Steam Frame VR headset release date window, specs, and price estimate

 <dc:content>
Valve's new VR headset has finally been announced, following rumors and leaks that hinted at new Steam-branded hardware. It's called the Steam Frame (a trademark that was registered a couple of months ago) and is set for release in 2026. This device was previously known under its codename, 'Deckard', and is the follow-up to the Valve Index - though it shouldn't be regarded as a sequel.

Steam Frame is set to arrive alongside two other devices: the Steam Machine and Steam Controller. This triplet of Steam-branded products joins the popular Steam Deck handheld as Valve expands its hardware lineup. There are still a few key details to learn, but here's what we know so far about the Frame's release date, specs, and price.

Steam Frame release date window

The first thing to disclose is that Valve hasn't specified an exact release date for the Steam Frame. Instead, much like the other hardware on the way, it is set for an "early 2026" release. Again, like the other hardware, it will be available to buy in many regions through the official Steam store or the newly rebranded KOMODO STATION in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea.

Rumors surrounding the 'Deckard' headset have been circulating online for a while now, which is why we speculated that 2025 could be a big year for Valve hardware. Evidently, the Steam Frame release won't be squeezed into the year, but it's nice to see Vavle finally making an announcement. The "early 2026" window may suggest sometime in Q1, which covers January through March.

Steam Frame specs for headset and controllers

The new Steam Frame VR headset differs from its predecessor, the Index, which had to be wired up to your VR-ready PC. This time around, Steam Frame is much more akin to the Meta Quest, as a standalone headset which offers "wireless, comfortable, lightweight VR for your Steam library". The headset comes with two controllers, which are also suitable for non-VR games.
Credit: ValveSpecificationSteam Frame headsetProcessor4 nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, ARM64 architectureRAM16GB Unified LPDDR5X RAMStorage256GB / 1TB UFS storage optionsmicroSD card slot for expanded storagePowerRechargeable 21.6 Wh Li-ion battery1x USB-C 2.0 port in the rear, for charging and dataCharge with USB-C, 45WModular HeadstrapHeadstrap includes integrated dual audio drivers and and rechargeable battery on rearHeadstrap weight: 245gDetachableDisplay2160 x 2160 LCD (per eye)72-144Hz refresh rate (144Hz experimental)OpticsCustom pancake lensesGlass and non-glass optical elementsLarge FOV (up to 110 degrees)IPD target range60mm - 70mmEyeglasses max width140mmTrackingInside-out camera-based trackingCameras4x outward-facing monochrome cameras for controller and headset tracking2x interior cameras for eye tracking and foveated streamingPassthroughMonochrome passthrough via outward-facing camerasLow-light supportIR illuminators for tracking and passthrough in dark environmentsExpansionUser accessible front expansion portDual high-speed camera interface (8 lanes @ 2.5Gbps MIPI) / PCIe Gen 4 interface (1-lane)ConnectivityWi-Fi 7, 2x2, dual radios (concurrent 5GHz Wi-Fi and 6GHz VR streaming), Bluetooth 5.3AudioDual speaker (per ear, in headstrap), Dual microphone arrayDimensions & Weight175mm x 95mm x 110mm440 g - core module + headstrap185 g - core moduleOperating System & DesktopSteamOS 3 (Arch-based), KDE Plasma desktopCredit: ValveSpecificationSteam Frame controllersMotion controlsFull 6-DOF tracking and IMU supportGamepad controlsA B X Y buttons (right controller)D-pad (left controller)Full-size magnetic thumbsticks (TMR) with capacitive touchL & R analog triggersL & R bumpersView / Menu / Steam buttonsDual stage grip buttonsHapticsHaptic motor in each controllerFinger trackingCapacitive sensing for all input surfacesCapacitive finger trackingConnectivity2.4ghz link to dedicated headset radioDimensions126mm x 73mm x 87mm per controllerWeightWith battery 130 g per controllerWithout battery 107 g per controllerPowerOne replaceable AA battery per controller40hr battery life
Steam Frame price estimate

Much like the specific release date, Valve hasn't announced exactly how much the Steam Frame will cost. However, what we do know is that it will be cheaper than the Valve Index. This detail was confirmed by VR-focused publication Road to VR during an interview following the reveal. For reference, the Index initially launched back in 2019, priced at $999.

So, while we don't know its exact price, we at least know it will be available for less than $999, and with the Meta Quest 3 currently at $499.99, we may estimate the Frame to be between $599 and $799. As you may have noticed in the specs table up above, there will also be 256GB and 1TB storage options available, which implies a couple of different price points to consider.

Is Steam Frame standalone?

Yes, the Steam Frame can be used as a standalone device. Valve even describes it as a PC, as it runs the Linux-based SteamOS and is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Series processor with 16GB of RAM. Alternatively, it's great for streaming games. It's marketed as a "streaming-first" headset and has some neat features to ensure smooth sailing. You hook it up to a gaming PC via a USB receiver.

For streaming, its 6GHz wireless adapter and dual radios are designed to provide a stable wireless connection. One radio transmits audio and visuals, while the other connects to your Wi-Fi. Valve also introduced its 'Foveated Streaming' feature. It keeps track of eye movement and optimizes details where you're focusing. The company says this "typically offers over a 10x improvement in image quality and effective bandwidth".

Is Steam Frame OLED?

No, the Steam Frame does not feature OLED panel technology. Instead, it is fitted with 2160 x 2160 LCDs (per eye) and offers between 72Hz and 144Hz.

A few examples that do use OLED include the Apple Vision Pro, Samsung Galaxy XR, and PlayStation VR 2, which benefit from OLED to help deliver high contrast, deep blacks, and vibrant colors. The Vision Pro and Galaxy XR use micro-OLED screens, in particular. A comparable LCD headset to the Steam Frame would be the Meta Quest 3.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmKrKTwtukE[ays_poll id="72"]</dc:content>

Apple Vision Pro M5 release date, specs, and price

 <dc:content>
Apple has announced its new M5 chip, and with it, three hardware launches. Alongside the new iPad Pro and MacBook Pro M5, the tech giant has updated its Vision Pro mixed reality headset with an M5 model. There was actually a rumor of this happening thanks to a leak a couple of months ago, and while the M5 model technically isn't the Vision Pro 2, it's an upgrade nonetheless.

The announcement reveals all there is to know about the Vision Pro M5, including its release date, specs, and price tag. Pre-orders are already live ahead of the full release date. The original M2 Vision Pro was released in early 2024 and came to more regions later that year. This time around, the M5 model will be available in multiple regions from day one.

Vision Pro M5 release date

Along with the other M5 hardware coming this month, Apple has confirmed that the M5 Vision Pro will be available on October 22. That follows a week-long pre-order phase, which began on the 15th. Much like the existing M2 Vision Pro, customers can book a demo for the M5 Vision Pro via Apple's website, in any Apple Store location stocking it from the 22nd.

Unlike the original Vision Pro, which had a slow rollout of international releases, the new M5 upgrade will be available on October 22 in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the UAE, the UK, and the US. Apple says it will be available in South Korea and Taiwan at a later date (no specifics have been given).

Vision Pro M5 specs

There are a few upgrades to talk about with this refreshed Vision Pro. The most obvious is the new M5 chip, but it also gets a new "soft, cushioned" Dual Knit Band. The latest visionOS 26 is installed on the device, bringing new widgets, personas, an interactive Jupiter Environment, and new Apple Intelligence features. Vision Pro owners recently got some more Apple Immersive VR content to experience, too.
SpecificationVision Pro M5ProcessorApple M5 (10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine) and Apple R1Displaymicro-OLED, 3D display system, 23 million pixels, 90Hz, 96Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, 92% DCI-P3Storage256GB, 512GB, 1TBCamera6.5MP, stereoscopic 3D main camera with spatial photo and photo captures (18mm, f/2.00 aperture)Sensors2 high-res main cameras, 6 world-facing tracking cameras, 4 eye-tracking cameras, TrueDepth camera, LiDAR scanner, 4 inertial measurement units (IMUs), flicker sensor, ambient light sensorAuthenticationOptic ID with iris-based biometricsOperating SystemvisionOS (26 at launch)ConnectivityWi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3BatteryUp to 2.5 hours of general use, video playback up to 3 hours, can be used while chargingWeight26.4–28.2 ounces (750–800 grams)
You can find a full list of Vision Pro specs on the Apple website here.

Vision Pro M5 price

There are a few things to consider with pricing. The first thing to mention is that the new M5 Vision Pro launches with the same initial price tag as the original M2 model: $3,499. So, it's an upgrade for the same price. It's an eye-watering cost, regardless, and was a big talking point when Apple unveiled its first mixed reality headset over two years ago.
Apple Vision Pro M5, 256GB storage: $3,499Apple Vision Pro M5, 512GB storage: $3,699Apple Vision Pro M5, 1TB storage: $3,899
Everything regarding price here is listed in USD. Outside of the headset itself, there are also some accessories you'll need to fork out extra cash for, as they are sold separately.
Dual Knit Band: $99Apple Vision Pro Travel Case: $199ZEISS Optical Inserts: $99 (readers) / $149 (prescription)Logitech Muse for Apple Vision Pro: $129.95PlayStation VR2 Sense controller and Controller Charging Station: $249.95
How does the M5 Vision Pro compare to M2 (first-gen)?

The upgrade to M5 on the Vision Pro promises longer battery life and improved display rendering. As you'd expect, the performance overall has been improved, with Apple focusing a lot on AI with the launch of M5 to achieve faster AI-powered workflows. Apple says the 16-core Neural Engine on the M5 chip allows it to run "up to 50 percent faster" for AI features, and "up to 2x faster" for third-party apps when compared to the previous generation device.

Outside of the internals, we have the new Dual Knit Band. It's available in small, medium, and large sizes, available for purchase separately, and is compatible with the previous-gen (M2) Vision Pro. The 3D-knitted design promises improved comfort, balance, and stability compared to the original headband.

When did Apple announce the M5 Vision Pro?

Apple announced the new M5 chip on October 15, and along with it, the new Vision Pro with M5. This announcement happened at the same time as the new MacBook Pro and iPad Pro devices, both of which also got upgraded to M5. Apple's very own Greg Joswiak teased the new flagship MacBook on social media the day before the full M5 announcement, but the Vision Pro refresh may have come as more of a surprise for Apple fans, and a welcome one at that.
</dc:content>

Meta Quest 3S release date, specs, and price

 <dc:content>
Update: Meta Quest 3S has now been launched and is available to pre-order from multiple retailers.

It has been a while (nearly a year) since Meta Quest 3 was launched, and it looks like Meta has plans to expand its range of VR offerings. The most obvious guess here would be a Meta Quest 4, but surprisingly, speculation so far tells a different story. For a while now, there have been rumors about Meta working on an affordable VR headset. We also have a name for it - the Meta Quest 3S - and it has finally been confirmed.

In any case, as we reported earlier, this VR headset has appeared online on FCC and Dekra certifications. This indicates that there is a strong possibility that the company is working on a new VR headset - we just don’t know exactly what it is.

Meta Quest 3S release date

Update: The release date of the 3S is now known to be October 16th; this is when pre-orders first arrive.

Now, Meta has not confirmed the existence of a Meta Quest 3S or even a new VR headset. However, considering that there are reports of certifications floating around, we can assume that Meta is working on something to be unveiled soon. The upcoming Meta Connect two-day event is scheduled for September 25th and 26th, we can expect to see a glimpse of a new VR device - hopefully.

Since Meta hasn’t even announced the headset yet, there is no specific release date. However, looking back, the Meta Quest 3, Quest 2, and Quest Pro were all released in the month of October, so there's a real possibility that the Quest 3S will arrive in October 2024, shortly after the Meta Connect event.

Meta Quest 3S specs

The specs of the Meta Quest 3S are now known, as listed on the Meta Store.
SpecificationMeta Quest 3SSystem on a chip (SoC)Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2DRAM8GBStorage128GB / 256GBResolution1832 x 1920 per eye (773 PPI / 20 PPD)Refresh rate90Hz / 120HzLensesFresnel Lenses with 3-Position IAD Adjustment
Previous leaks below:

As far as specs are concerned, it is being speculated that the Meta Quest 3S is likely to share some specs with the Quest 2. So, as per some earlier leaks, the VR headset will have an 1832 x 1920 resolution (per eye) and might even appear similar to the Quest 2. It would offer a max refresh rate of 90Hz or 120Hz.
Leaked specs, source: Lunayian on X
Furthermore, it might run on a Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset, two 4MP RGB passthrough cameras, and also ring-less controllers. As this is a new headset, we might get to see some tweaks like better accessories or a more snug fit.

To add to this, Luniyan shared two more details about the upcoming VR headset. As per their latest posts on X, it is being said that this VR headset will have an "Action" button. As per the post, this button might be used to switch between immersive surroundings and your room in a passthrough. Plus, Luniyan also suggested that the headset may have two LED lights to indicate the status of the device.

While the prospect of an Action button and LED lights sounds fascinating, it should be noted that these are rumors at this point. Meta is yet to confirm that this VR headset is in the works and will actually be released.

Meta Quest 3S price

We now know that the Meta Quest 3S is available for $299.99 for the 128GB model. The 256GB model costs $399.99.

Prior to launch, in a newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggested that Meta’s new headset might be priced around “$300 or $400.” If we go with the $300 price tag, then this would make the Quest 3S cheaper than the Quest 3. And while the Meta Quest 3 is a fantastic VR headset, it is pricey. So, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for an affordable option from Meta.
</dc:content>

Apple Vision Pro UK, Canada release date & price

 <dc:content>
Claimed to be one of the most exciting new pieces of technology since the iPhone, there's no denying the massive hype surrounding the Apple Vision Pro; even Tim Cook himself hailed the Vision Pro as the "most advanced consumer electronics device ever created". So, it's no wonder that fans outside of the US are eager to get a hold of the headset.

With its combination of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), this mixed-reality headset offers a unique and immersive experience for users. It first officially launched in the United States in Feburary 2024, but now other regions won't have to wait much longer to get their hands on it. We can now explore the Apple Vision Pro UK & Canada release date, price, and availability.

Apple Vision Pro UK & Canada release date announced

There was previously plenty of speculation regarding the release of the Apple Vision Pro in the UK and Canada, but we don't have to pay attention to that any longer. Now Apple has officially announced that the headset will be available in both these regions from the 12th of July, 2024, with pre-orders going live on the 28th of June. This comes from the annual WWDC conference which this year kicked off on June 10th. The full statement goes as follows:

"Customers in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom can pre-order Vision Pro beginning Friday, June 28, at 5 a.m. PT, with availability beginning Friday, July 12"
Apple
So, not only will Canada and the UK be getting the Vision Pro at the same time, but this also extends to Australia, France, and Germany. Furthermore, mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore are getting the Vision Pro - a little earlier on June 28th with pre-orders live as soon as June 13th.

What countries will get the Vision Pro next?

While we now have a longer list of countries getting the Vision Pro above, we can still take a look at an older rumor. A nifty spot from MacRumors revealed code that shows 12 new languages coming to the Apple Vision Pro keyboard, which previously only supported American English. The following languages will shortly be arriving soon:
Cantonese, TraditionalChinese, SimplifiedEnglish (Australia)English (Canada)English (Japan)English (Singapore)English (UK)French (Canada)French (France)German (Germany)JapaneseKorean
This lines up with what has already been revealed so far, though Korea is yet to see availability, even if Korean becomes a supported language on the Vision Pro keyboard.

Apple Vision Pro at a glance
SpecificationApple Vision ProProcessorM2 chip, R1 chipRAM16GBStorage space256GB / 512GB / 1TBDisplay resolution4K per eyeRefresh rate90Hz, 96Hz, 100HzDisplay typeMicro-OLED (aluminum alloy frame)Weight~ 1.1 poundsLensesCustom catadioptric lenses and ZEISS Optical InsertsConnectivity and wirelessWi‑Fi 6 (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.3ControllersHand, eye, and face trackingApple Vision Pro specs table
What are the features and functionality of the Vision Pro?

The Vision Pro is a mixed-reality headset that allows users to control apps using their eyes, hands, and voice. One such competitor is Meta Quest 3, a mixed-reality VR headset offered by Meta (Facebook's owner). While the Meta Quest 3 is primarily focused on gaming and has a more affordable price point, the Vision Pro offers advanced technology and the potential for a wide range of applications, including acting as a full desktop computer.

Other competitors in the VR market include Sony PlayStation VR and the line of Vive VR headsets from HTC.
How to use the Apple Vision Pro keyboard – an easy step-by-step guide

 <dc:content>
The Apple Vision Pro, with its innovative augmented reality features, has redefined the way we interact with the digital world. However, a common misconception surrounding this device is the availability of a dedicated physical keyboard. Unlike traditional computers and tablets, this headset prioritizes a hands-free, gesture-based approach, making the inclusion of a physical keyboard irrelevant to its design philosophy. In this article, we show you how to use the Apple Vision Pro keyboard, covering methods that utilize hand gestures, eye-tracking, and voice input.

If you'd like to find out more about this impressive VR headset, then take a look at some of our other content on the topic. Additionally, you could check out some of our other helpful how-to guides, like our how-to pair the Vision Pro with Macbook Pro and Air guide, where we highlight the ways in which you can connect the Vision Pro to various Mac products.

How do you activate the Apple Vision Pro keyboard?

To activate your Vision Pro's virtual keyboard just tap (index finger & thumb pinch motion) in any text field and the virtual keyboard will pop up directly in front of you. If you'd like to edit the settings of your keyboard function or remove it, head to Settings>General>Keyboard, where you'll find a toggle that will turn typing features on or off.

How to use the Apple Vision Pro keyboard - three input methods

While the Vision Pro doesn't come with a physical keyboard, it offers several alternative input methods designed to seamlessly integrate with its unique interface.

How do I connect my keyboard to my Vision Pro?

Although the Vision Pro doesn't have a dedicated keyboard port, it supports Bluetooth connectivity. This allows you to connect a third-party Bluetooth keyboard if you prefer a direct touch typing experience. However, it's crucial to remember that the Vision Pro's interface and features are primarily optimized for the aforementioned touch-based and voice-enabled input methods. Utilizing a physical keyboard might require additional navigation and adjustments compared to a traditional computer setup.

Conclusion

The Apple Vision Pro represents a bold leap forward in human-computer interaction, prioritizing an intuitive and natural user experience. While the lack of a physical keyboard might surprise some users accustomed to traditional computing devices, it's essential to understand that the Vision Pro is designed for a fundamentally different interaction style. Waiting for your device to recharge while you're in the middle of using it can be an annoyance, this is why it's a good idea to know how long it takes to fully charge. Luckily, you can re-charge the Vision Pro whilst using it, however, it does mean that the headset will be connected to a charging cable, restricting your movement and overall experience. Therefore, we thought it would be a good idea to answer the question - how long does the Apple Vision Pro take to charge? So you can get back to fully charged, cable-free use it in no time!

If you're keen to find out more about the Apple Vision Pro battery life, then check out some of our other related content. For example, our guide on how to see the battery status of the Apple Vision Pro. Additionally, you could take a look at some of our other VR headset related content, including our piece on whether the Apple Vision Pro headset can replace the Macbook or laptop, where we look at the benefits of the Vision Pro over Mac products.

How long does it take to fully charge the Apple Vision Pro battery?

Early reviews of the product state that it takes around 1.5 hours of charging for 2.5 hours of wireless usage. However, the charging time of the Apple Vision Pro battery depends on various factors, including the battery's remaining charge level and the power adapter's wattage. Using a compatible 30W or higher power adapter should provide efficient charging. However, the exact charging time may vary.

Indicators of charging status

The light next to the USB-C port on the Apple Vision Pro external battery pack provides useful information about its charging status. To ensure optimal charging performance, it is recommended to use an Apple USB-C power adapter rated for 30W or higher. Using your iPhone or iPad adapter will work but as it is only 20W it may take a little longer to charge.

Troubleshooting battery charging issues

If you encounter any issues while charging your Apple Vision Pro battery, consider the following troubleshooting steps:
Ensure that you are using a compatible USB-C power adapter rated for 30W or higher.Try using a different USB-C charging cable to rule out any cable-related issues.Verify that the power source you are connected to can power other devices.If the battery's light does not come on when connected to power, try using a different power adapter or cable to identify if the issue lies with the accessories.
If the issue persists, it is recommended to contact Apple Support for further assistance.

How long does the Apple Vision Pro take to charge - wrapping up

Having to charge your headset while you're in the middle of a game can be an annoyance, but at least with this handy guide, you're able to figure out just how long it'll take until you're at full charge again. When the battery needs charging, the light will be amber. Once the battery is fully charged, the light will turn green. If the battery is very low on power, the light may flash amber, indicating the need for immediate charging.

Although it is helpful to see the battery represented by the light indicator, it can be more efficient to know the exact level or percentage of your headset's battery. Therefore, the following methods will teach you how to access this information with ease.

How to see the battery status on the Apple Vision Pro

Monitoring the battery level is crucial to ensure uninterrupted usage of your Apple Vision Pro. Here are two methods to check the battery level:

How do I charge my Apple Vision Pro?

The Apple Vision Pro comes with an external battery pack that connects to the headset, a USB-C charging cable, and a USB-C power adapter. In order to charge your headset you have to connect your power cable to the external battery on one end and to the USB-C adapter on the other; the adapter will then plug into a power outlet and your Vision Pro will be charging. This simple charging method will allow you to have hours of general use wirelessly.

Can I use the Apple Vision Pro while it's charging?

Yes, you can use the Apple Vision Pro while it's charging. However, it's important to be mindful of the USB-C Charge Cable as you move around to prevent any accidental disconnections. Additionally, make sure to be cautious of the battery pack which could get damaged if not careful; for example, if you sit down with it in your back pocket.

How often should I charge the battery?

There is no specific rule for how often you should charge the Apple Vision Pro battery. It's generally recommended to charge the battery whenever it's convenient for you or when the battery level is low. A single charge of 1.5 hours will provide you with 2.5 hours of wireless usage.

How to see the battery status on the Apple Vision Pro - conclusion

Monitoring the battery status of your Apple Vision Pro is crucial for a seamless and uninterrupted experience.
How long does the Apple Vision Pro battery last?

 <dc:content>
The Vision Pro's wired battery pack is one of the few things keeping you tethered to reality when you're plugged into your VR headset: so, how long does the Apple Vision Pro battery last? When you're immersed in a spatial video, on a FaceTime call using your digital persona, or watching a 3D movie, the last thing you want is your Vision Pro battery life suddenly disappearing on you.

In this article, we're focusing on the Apple Vision Pro's battery life, detailing how long you can expect a full battery discharge to last you in different use cases including general use, video playback, and internet browsing.

How does the Apple Vision Pro battery work?

The Apple Vision Pro is powered by an external rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides sufficient runtime for your visual needs. The battery capacity determines how long you can use the device before needing to recharge it. You can read in more depth about how to turn on an Apple Vision Pro here, but in essence, the battery pack connects to the headset via a power cable that attaches to the Vision Pro Audio Strap.

The Vision Pro must be connected to the external battery pack in order to turn on, but you can still use the headset while the battery is charging with the included 5-foot (1.5m) USB-C cable. This is convenient for those planning to use the Vision Pro for an extended session and don't want to worry about the battery giving out.

Apple Vision Pro battery capacity and usage

The Apple Vision Pro battery is designed to offer up to 2 hours of general use or 2.5 hours of video watching when fully charged. Additionally, the battery powers the device even when not in use, allowing it to sync your mail, photos, and more. The battery life depends on various factors, such as device settings, usage patterns, network connectivity, and environmental conditions.

Apple Vision Pro battery life for general use

When using the Apple Vision Pro for general usage, such as browsing the internet, reading emails, or using miscellaneous apps, you can expect it to last for approximately 2 hours before requiring a recharge. This duration may vary depending on factors such as screen brightness, app usage, and internet connectivity. When connected to a power source through the charging cable, the Vision Pro battery life will last all day.

Vision Pro battery life for video watching

If you primarily use the Apple Vision Pro for video watching, you can enjoy up to 2.5 hours of continuous playback on a fully charged battery. This includes streaming videos, watching movies, or any other video-related activities such as entering the spatial environments. It's worth noting that the battery life may be affected by the resolution of the content being viewed and the volume level, causing the 2.5-hour life span to shorten or extend slightly depending on usage.

How long does the Vision Pro battery last on a single charge?

According to Apple, the Vision Pro can be expected to last approximately 2 hours when being used for general activities, and will last you about 2.5 hours of video playback for watching movies, sports, YouTube, and more. If you didn't know, when you leave your Vision Pro charging it will remain active for 24 hours before automatically powering down to conserve battery life.

Conclusion

The Apple Vision Pro offers an immersive visual experience, and understanding its battery life and maintenance is crucial for uninterrupted usage. Remember to use a compatible power adapter, monitor the battery level, and follow the recommended maintenance tips to optimize your device's battery performance. Crucially, don't forget that you've got the Vision Pro battery pack in your pocket before you sit down, as getting a new one will set you back an extra $200.
</dc:content>

Apple Vision Pro “Crackgate” intensifying as users share horror stories

 <dc:content>
Reports are circulating on social media about some Apple Vision Pro users experiencing cracks in their computing headsets.

There are dozens of Apple Vision Pro users reporting cracked units on the official r/Apple Vision Pro subreddit so much so that it's ushered in the colloquial term of "Crackgate". It's disappointing to see a $3,500 headset experiencing such issues so soon after its US-only launch window, especially for early adopters who bought the Apple Vision Pro; it's looking like a far more widespread issue than originally theorized.

Momentum behind Crackgate started to build just three days after the Apple Vision Pro's release date with one Reddit post stating "we have a crack on the outer glass already". The photo shows a small vertical line directly on the bottom middle of the headset. The user writes: "I have never used my Vision Pro outside of my bed, and whenever I am not using it, I always have the soft outer cover on" continuing with: "I wonder what caused the crack, and whether it's a manufacturing defect or not".

Soon after this post went live on on the subreddit, which now boasts over 60,000 users, more stories of the same vertical crack on the outer glass began appearing, with the severity appearing to get worse. One user posted about a "random crack in the front glass" with the line considerably thicker and longer than the original sighting. They explain: "It's been sitting neatly in the Apple travel-case, and it's been subject to very light use of a couple of hours a day". Ending with: "I haven't dropped it or similar".

The shocking state of the photo was enough to ignite heavy discussion in the comments. The top-rated response asked if the battery was connected to the unit and charging on the wall outlet while inside of the protective cover, with some users explaining that the Apple Vision Pro cracks could be appearing due to a "heat expansion problem cracking the glass".

Apple Vision Pro Crackgate looks to be more widespread than a couple of horror stories
Reddit user inphenite's cracked Apple Vision Pro (image via inphenite on Reddit)
The Apple Vision Pro cracks appear to be getting some level of recognition from Apple itself according to threads on more posts where the headset has this issue. A user posted about another cracked front glass but followed up with Apple support. They shared their iPhone screen and "other posts on this sub of people with the same issue" to where the representative "documented everything" and set up a repair process.

It's not just users on Reddit documenting issues, either. That's because people are also posting on Apple's community forums as well. A user writes about the Apple Vision Pro crack: "I noticed a very small indent on the bridge of the nose of Vision Pro when I first got it" they explain, "it is very tiny, something like a fingernail size, I was concerned but assumed it just a production technique" and that "it is in line with the photos I have seen online"

The top response tells the user to bring it into Apple so that it can inspect the headset to see whether it's a manufacturing defect. Interestingly, they raise the idea of Apple charging a significant sum to repair the item: "If they think you damaged it, without Apple Care it's about $800 to repair it" but with Apple Care it's "still a few hundred to repair". This appears to line up with estimates from Apple Support which now includes a service of "Cracked cover glass" which is $799 without or $299 with an AppleCare+ plan.

It appears as though leaving the Apple Vision Pro in direct sunlight for hours on end could be a factor in why the headsets are cracking at an alarming rate. One user writes: "PSA: never set your Vision Pro down in a way that lets sunlight into the lenses" because "it will burn the screen and require an expensive repair". According to the comments, there's no warning in the box about using the headset in direct sunlight. Something to be aware of if you're considering buying Apple Vision Pro.

Apple Vision Pro Crackgate is concerning users of the headset
Reddit user Derekbair's cracked Apple Vision Pro headset (image via Derekbair on Reddit)
It doesn't look as though the cracked Apple Vision Pro headset photos are slowing down any time soon. Earlier this week, one user posted "crack is wack!" stating that: "so apparently the cracking is real. In its case (Apple's official case) not charging, cover on the front. [The] crack wasn't there last time I opened it a couple of days ago. Unbelievable".

The top rated comment explains: "Crackgate has caused me to perform a new ritual of closely inspecting my device for cracks every time I take it out or put it away" and that this eventuality isn't "what Apple was hoping would be in the forefront of users' minds". The original poster responded: "Last time I took it out was after seeing the posts about cracks and checking for one". They explain: "Didn't expect it to actually happen to me" and how they're "worried it may happen to a lot of them".

Another thread response writes: "It's definitely a more widespread issue than what what we see here" and that they been "disconnecting the battery after each use and also when charging the battery". Crackgate looks to have inspired justified paranoia in the early adopters, which isn't a good sign given its exorbitant pricing and current limited availability. "I also started waiting for the device to warm up to room temp before using it now" and "[it] really sucks this is happening and that we have to baby this thing".

Apple has yet to officially comment on this situation. We'll be updating you with the latest news and comment as more information becomes available. The best advice we can offer is to follow the directives of users in terms of care for the headset; keep it unplugged when not in use, away from the sun or any kind of heat and be incredibly gentle. Hopefully, this is just the result of an early adopters' first batch, and something that could be amended in due time. We'll keep you posted.
</dc:content>

To turn off your headset using the Digital Crown, follow these steps:

How to turn off the Vision Pro using the Settings app

If you prefer a more traditional method of powering off your Vision Pro, you can utilize the Settings app. Here's how you can do it:

Other ways to turn off the Apple Vision Pro

While you can opt to turn off your Vision Pro using the two methods above, there are a couple of other ways to get the VR headset to shut down, including doing a force restart, removing the external battery pack, and simply asking Siri.
To do a Force Restart, press down and hold the Digital Crown and the top button simultaneously. Ignore the Force Quit Applications window and power slider, holding continuously until the screen goes completely black.Another option is by speaking the command "Hey Siri, shut down my Apple Vision Pro." Finally, if you're in a hitch and need to turn your headset off quickly, then your best bet is to disconnect the battery power cable from the Audio Strap. To do this, gently twist the power cord anti-clockwise until it unlocks and pull it off.
How do I put my Apple Vision Pro to sleep?

If you prefer to leave your Vision Pro in sleep mode rather than powering it off completely, you have that option too. Apple recommends using sleep mode when you take a break from using your headset. To put your Vision Pro in battery-saving sleep mode, you just have to take off the headset without shutting it down or removing the battery. After 24 hours of inactivity, your Vision Pro will automatically power down to save battery life.

To wake it up from sleep mode, simply press the top button on your headset, and the Apple logo will appear on the front display, indicating that it's powered on.

Is there a sleep button on the Apple Vision Pro?

No, there's no official sleep button on the Vision Pro; the device only has the Digital Crown and the top button. To put your Vision Pro to sleep, you just need to take it off without powering down or removing the battery pack, as mentioned above.

Can you turn Vision Pro remotely using an iPhone?

No, unfortunately, there is currently no remote power-off feature available for the Vision Pro using an iPhone or any other Apple device.

Can I power off my Vision Pro by covering the screens?

As convenient as it would be, covering the screens of your Vision Pro will not power off the headset. It's best to use the Digital Crown, or the Settings app for a proper power-off process.

Final thoughts

Powering off your Apple Vision Pro is a straightforward process, and there are several methods available to ensure a seamless experience. Whether you prefer using the Digital Crown or the Settings app, you can easily turn off your headset with just a few steps. Remember, consider battery life and charging habits in order to maximize your usage time with your Vision Pro and enjoy longer sessions of entertainment.
</dc:content>

How to turn on an Apple Vision Pro – explained

 <dc:content>
Being lucky enough to own an Apple Vision Pro headset is one thing, but understanding how to use this high-end piece of tech is another ball game: here's how to turn on an Apple Vision Pro. Like any electronic device, it's important to know how to properly power on the Apple Vision Pro to ensure optimal performance and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.

So, in this article, we'll walk you through the process of powering on and restarting the Apple Vision Pro. Get your Vision Pro straps at hand, and let's get started!

What to do before you turn on the Apple Vision Pro

It's all well and good being excited to jump into the world of the Apple Vision Pro, but there are a few tips to keep in mind ahead of entering the setup process that can help you have a stress-free mixed reality experience.
Probably the most important thing to do is to make sure that you're in a safe area free of obstacles. You'll want to ensure that you're in a controlled environment where there's nothing you can trip over or bump into.It's worth bearing in mind that glasses aren't compatible with the Vision Pro, so if you need vision correction take this opportunity to order a set of Zeiss Optical Inserts.This is an obvious one, but make sure that your headset fits properly. Make sure that you have the correct size Light Seal and Light Seal Cushion for your face when wearing the Vision Pro, and get familiar with the two types of headbands, the dual loop band and the solo knit band, to choose which one is more comfortable if you're planning on using it for an extended period.Lastly, to use the Apple Vision Pro, you'll need a valid Apple ID. So, make sure you've got your email and password to hand.
How to turn on the Apple Vision Pro step-by-step

To power on the Vision Pro, all you need to do is follow the simple steps provided below:

That’s all there is to it. However, if you have already disconnected the battery, reconnecting it will turn it on automatically.

How do you force restart the Apple Vision Pro?

Knowing how to restart your device is an essential piece of information, and you sometimes might find yourself in a situation where you need to force quit applications if they aren't working as they should. Here's just how to do that.
Locate the Digital Crown and the top button on your Apple Vision Pro.Press and hold both buttons simultaneously until the Power button slider appears on the screen.Keep holding until the display goes blank, then release both buttons.After a few seconds, you will see the Apple logo appear on the screen indicating that the device is restarting.
How often should I restart my Apple Vision Pro?

While it's up to you how often you restart your Vision Pro, it's recommended to restart it periodically to ensure smooth operation and clear any temporary software glitches and hiccups. You can restart it whenever you experience performance issues or if an app is not functioning correctly to give the headset a refresh and get it functioning normally.

How long does the Apple Vision last on one charge?

The Apple Vision Pro battery life varies depending on usage and settings, but in general, the external rechargeable battery pack should provide 2 hours for general use or 2.5 hours for video streaming according to Apple. This is for when you're not connected to a power source; if you're connected to a power source, you should have uninterrupted usage of your Vision Pro.

What is the battery light on the Apple Vision Pro?

If you're wondering what the battery light next to the USB-C charging port of your Vision Pro is, it simply displays the charge level of the device. Green signifies that the device is fully charged, whereas amber tells you that your battery is in need of charging; if the amber light is flashing, the battery has critically low power and will need to be charged before you use the Vision Pro.

Final thoughts

So, there are some simple steps and helpful queries to help you enjoy your Apple headset to its fullest. Remember, properly powering off and restarting your Apple Vision Pro is essential for maintaining its performance and resolving any software-related issues. By following the instructions provided in this guide, you'll be able to navigate and power on your device with ease and enjoy the full potential of the Vision Pro.
</dc:content>

This pricing strikes a balance between cost and market accessibility, making the Vision Pro an attractive option for users seeking a high-quality mixed reality experience.

On the other hand, the Varjo XR-4 has a starting price of $3990. While it may not be the most affordable option, its exceptional performance and precision make it a worthy investment for professionals in various fields.

Is the Apple Vision Pro better than the Varjo XR-4?

In conclusion, the choice between the Varjo XR-4 and Apple Vision Pro depends heavily on the intended use case.
Apple Vision Pro vs Pimax Crystal – has Pimax beaten Apple?

 <dc:content>
Pimax's VR headset might not have had the same amount of media attention as Apple's first mixed reality headset, but it's a worthy rival that boasts impressive specs at over half the cost; let's see how the Apple Vision Pro vs Pimax Crystal comparison unfolds. Apple has always placed a strong emphasis on design, and the Vision Pro is no exception, maintaining Apple's signature sleek branding to look unique from any other current device. Many have compared them to ski goggles, but there's no denying that the curved aluminum frame and soft fabric headband make for an attractive look. This 'Spatial Computing' headset features customizable Light Seal and dual strap headbands, allowing users to tailor the fit to their preferences. This consideration for user comfort is crucial, especially during extended usage sessions. However, the weight of the headset remains a challenge, and users may experience discomfort over long periods.

On the other hand, the Pimax Crystal features a weighty yet comfortable design, with a form factor that's more comparable in design to the Meta Quest Pro. With a matte black finish and foam padding for the main rectangular shaped HMD, the Crystal exudes a sense of durability and quality. The adjustable head straps and front padding ensure a secure and comfortable fit, allowing users to enjoy extended VR sessions without too much discomfort.

Performance

Powered by the M2 and R1 chips, the Apple Vision Pro delivers robust and fluid performance, ensuring a seamless AR experience. However, practical issues such as the tethered battery design and cord management still need improvement, and on the whole the Vision Pro does feel like a first generation device, despite still being so impressive. The battery life, while sufficient for several hours of usage, may require strategic planning for longer use sessions.

The Pimax Crystal, on the other hand, delivers impressive performance with its Snapdragon chipset. The high resolution and wide field of view make gaming experiences more immersive and engaging. What's more, the Pimax has two modes, and can be used in standalone mode or connected to a PC to leverage the power of a dedicated GPU and CPU. It's also the first PC VR headset to include high-quality inside-out tracking. However, the Crystal does exhibit some chromatic aberration and fringing when viewed off-center. It's also worth noting that the headset's front-heavy design may cause strain on the neck during extended gaming sessions.

Entertainment and immersive experiences

When it comes to entertainment, the Apple Vision Pro takes things to a whole new level. With Apple TV+ integration, users can indulge in an immersive 3D cinematic experience that surpasses the traditional movie theater experience. The introduction of Immersive Video, boasting 8K recordings and a 180-degree field of view, delivers an unprecedented level of engagement, transporting users right into the heart of the action.

On the other hand, the Crystal combines cutting edge hardware with crystal-clear visuals to immerse users in a lifelike virtual world. The sharpness and detail of the display make it a compelling choice for those seeking a visually stunning VR game experience. It boasts an impressive field of view, with a horizontal angle of 125° and a diagonal angle of 140°. This wide field of view enhances immersion, allowing users to explore virtual environments with a greater sense of depth and realism.

App ecosystem

Naturally, the Apple Vision Pro offers a fundamentally different experience to most of the VR headsets currently available, being a one-of-a-kind spatial computer that's much more focused on productivity and communication than gaming headsets such as the Pimax Crystal. While both headsets have eye-tracking, few similarities can be drawn when it comes to the actual app ecosystem and integration. The Apple Vision Pro has a growing native app ecosystem with the potential for mixed reality experiences, and can also be used alongside other Apple products such as a Mac or iPhone; it's a more effective augmented reality setup. The Pimax Crystal, on the other hand, has a limited native app ecosystem. However, it delivers unique gaming experiences.

Apple Vision Pro vs Pimax Crystal price

In terms of pricing, the Apple Vision Pro comes with a price tag of $3,499. However, it's currently only available in the United States, with speculations pointing towards an international launch coming before the end of this year. On the other hand, the Pimax Crystal comes with a price tag of $1,599.99, making it a more affordable alternative to the Vision Pro.

Is the Apple Vision Pro better than the Pimax Crystal?

When it comes to making a decision, it ultimately depends on your priorities and budget; and your location. Both the Apple Vision Pro and the Pimax Crystal offer unique features and capabilities that cater to different user preferences. If you value seamless integration with the Apple ecosystem, innovative interface and interaction capabilities, and the potential for a growing app ecosystem, the Apple Vision Pro may be the VR headset for you. The drawback is that not only is it over double the price of the Pimax, but it's also currently only available in the US. However, if you can afford it, the Vision Pro truly does promise a unique experience. Alternatively, if you prioritize high-resolution visuals, immersive gaming experiences, and a comfortable design, the Pimax Crystal may be the better choice, and the more affordable one too.
</dc:content>

With its sleek design and powerful hardware, the wearables offer a wide range of features that make it a compelling option for users seeking an immersive AR experience.

Design and comfort

The Vision Pro boasts a futuristic design with a high-tech pair of goggles-like appearance. The 3D-formed glass and aluminum alloy frame give it a sleek and polished look. The Light Seal, which sits between the headset and the user's face, ensures a comfortable fit with no light leakage. The flexible headband and the easy-to-use dial for tightening, producing eye comfort, and a customizable wearing experience

Immersive entertainment

For entertainment purposes, the Vision Pro provides a truly immersive experience. Users can watch movies and TV shows on a virtual 100-foot-wide screen with 4K resolution and Spatial video/audio. The headset supports 3D movie playback, making the viewing experience even more captivating. Additionally, the Vision Pro enables users to capture and view photos and videos on a life-size scale, with the capability to capture spatial content.

Power and battery life

The Vision Pro is powered by the M2 chip and a dedicated R1 chip for real-time processing. The micro OLED panels offer crisp visuals with better-than-4K resolution. However, the device requires an external battery pack, which has a relatively short battery life of around 2 hours. Users will need to recharge the battery pack frequently to continue using the headset.

Xreal Air 2 Ultra - specs and features

The Xreal Air 2 Ultra is Xreal's latest addition to its Air glasses lineup, aiming to compete with industry giants like Apple and Meta. With its advanced features and sleek design, Air 2 Ultra glasses promise to deliver a compelling alternative for developers and consumers seeking an immersive AR experience. It is available for pre-order now and will start shipping in March.

Design and lightweight construction

The Air 2 Ultra features a sunglasses-style form factor with a 52-degree field of view, offering users a wide visual experience. The titanium package weighs only 80 grams, making it lightweight and comfortable to wear. The front layer of the glasses supports three electrochromic dimming levels for increased immersion without the need for a physical shield.

Spatial tracking and hand control

One of the key highlights of the Air 2 Ultra is its 6DOF (six degrees of freedom) spatial tracking and hand tracking capabilities. This allows virtual objects to seamlessly integrate with the real world, providing users with a truly immersive experience. The dual 3D cameras on the glasses enable environment mapping and enable developers to build apps that blend physical and digital space.

Power and connectivity

Unlike standalone mixed reality headsets, the Air 2 Ultra relies on compatibility with external computing units such as smartphones, computers, or Xreal's Beam module. This flexibility allows users to connect the glasses to a range of devices, including Samsung Galaxy smartphones, iPhones, and Mac or Windows machines. Xreal's Nebula AR environment provides the necessary software support for these connections.

Is the Xreal Air 2 Ultra better than the Apple Vision Pro?

Both the Apple Vision Pro and the Xreal Air 2 Ultra offer advanced features and immersive AR experiences. The Vision Pro stands out with its sleek design, powerful hardware, and intuitive interface. It excels in productivity, communication, and entertainment, providing users with a wide range of use cases. However, its high price of $3,500 may deter some potential buyers.

On the other hand, the Air 2 Ultra offers a competitive alternative at a more affordable price point of $699. Its impressive spatial anchors and developer-focused features, make it an attractive option for developers and early adopters. The lightweight construction and comfortable design add to its appeal.

Do I need an iPhone for Apple Vision Pro?

Unlike the Xreal Air 2 Ultra, the Apple Vision Pro does not require an external phone or device for charging. You can set up your Vision Pro entirely on its own all you need is a WIFI connection. The only point where you might consider pairing your phone with your headset is to transfer your data using Quick Start.

Apple Vision Pro vs Xreal Air 2 Ultra - Wrapping up

The choice between these two products is entirely dependent on your preferences. Both the Apple Vision Pro and the Xreal Air 2 Ultra harness some of the best technology available on the market at the minute, so deciding between them mainly comes down to budget. The Apple Vision Pro is on the higher end while the Xreal Air 2 Ultra has a relatively low asking price. Therefore, the comparison of these two impressive pieces of kit boils down to budget and if the abilities of the products justify the price.
</dc:content>
