Hi there, I'm <a href="https://write.as/matt/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Matt</a> 👋I'm a writer, known mostly for creating <a href="https://write.as" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Write.as,</a> a clean blogging and newsletter platform. I started it over 10 years ago because I wanted a simple tool for sharing my writing online. Now it's used by over 500,000 people around the world, plus countless more who run their own independent sites on <a href="https://writefreely.org" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">WriteFreely</a>, the open source software that powers it all.The company I founded, <a href="https://musing.studio" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Musing Studio</a>, is behind these products and a few others. I've also made <a href="https://baer.works/web" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">lots of little projects</a> on the web.<h2 style="">Writing</h2>This is where I spend most of my time, when I'm not working on software. I write a lot online, across several blogs. My biggest ones are <a href="https://write.as/matt/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Write.as/Matt</a> for long-form updates, and shorter-form updates on <a href="https://micro.baer.works" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Micro Matt</a>. Naturally, I publish them all with Write.as.Partly, I intend to use this Patreon to share some writing I don't post on these public blogs.<h2 style="">Community</h2>I manage and help moderate a few online communities:<ul><li><a href="https://read.write.as/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Read Write.as</a>, a public community for Write.as users</li><li><a href="https://writing.exchange" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Writing Exchange</a>, a small microblogging community for writers</li></ul>and I organize creative gatherings in person, too.<h2 style="">Photography</h2>I co-founded and help organize a bi-weekly meetup for photographers in the New York City area, called <a href="https://photostroll.nyc" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">NYC Photo Stroll</a>. Since starting in July 2022, we've had over 70 photowalks, some workshops and gallery showings, released two zine editions, and helped hundreds of people come together over the shared love of photography.Since picking up the camera again, I've had my work included in two zines and shown in those exhibitions. It remains a hobby, but I enjoy sharing it with others.
