The Next Picture Show

The Next Picture Show is a movie-of-the-week podcast devoted to a classic film and how it’s shaped our thoughts on a recent release — and we’re trying to branch out a bit. Hence this Patreon, in which we invite our listeners to help fund the podcast in exchange for some bonus content. We’re committed to keeping the main podcast free, but we’d love to expand what we offer for our community of listeners who want more. A collaboration between Genevieve Koski, Scott Tobias, Tasha Robinson, and Keith Phipps — friends who have worked together for years, first at The A.V. Club then at The Dissolve — The Next Picture Show is rooted in the belief that nothing improves film appreciation quite like context and the free exchange of ideas and opinions. And if you want more context, ideas, and opinions, we are happy to supply it. To that end, we’re offering two different tiers of support. At the first tier, you’ll get access to The Projector, our weekly newsletter featuring behind-the-scenes insights, random observations about the film world, links to recent work we've written (or work we like — maybe even exclusive reviews of new movies, appreciations of older titles, pieces about film-related topics (and maybe occasionally other subjects like, gasp, television). You can read these on this Patreon page or in your inbox, where they’ll show up when we publish them. If you like that, you’ll love what you get at the second tier: Bonus episodes. We’ve got two formats in mind and more in the planning stages, with plans to release at least two a month: “The Lobby&quot;: We watch a lot of movies and want to talk about them, even when what we’re watching doesn’t fit the format of the show. With Lobby Talk we’ll offer unscripted conversations about movies we’re not covering on the show. No format, just friends having conversations about film (and sometimes other stuff, too). &quot;Switching Channels&quot;: We at The Next Picture Show also watch television and we like to talk about it. In these bonus episodes we'll talk about what's going on on the small screen, whether it's a new season of Stranger Things, a particularly great old episode of Cheers, or whatever else catches our eye. We’ll hope you’ll join us as we take The Next Picture Show to its next phase.
