The Monil collar has a top-mounted design that optimizes boundary accuracy and solar energy collection while protecting the electronics from impact.
A combined counterweight and buckle mechanism keeps the collar oriented and makes fitting easy.
The Monil collar is powered by the sun, continuously recharging itself while your animals graze. During the summer grazing season, solar charging alone is typically sufficient to keep collars operating without manual intervention.
In darker winter months, or in situations with extreme boundary interaction, some collars may require an occasional recharge using a physical charger. Chargers are included in the purchase, one charger for every 10 collars. With Monil, there are no battery replacements needed.
Built for real farm conditions, the Monil collar features a strong, secure locking system and a durable strap designed to stay in place. The strap is the result of extensive research and animal testing, shaped to fit the animal’s neck comfortably while remaining easy for ranchers to fit and adjust.
The locking mechanism is designed specifically for ranch use - simple to handle, secure in the field, and quick to apply. Bells can be added at the bottom of the lock for producers who want traditional audible tracking alongside virtual fencing.
Safety is built into the design. If an animal gets caught, the strap is designed to give under heavy pull rather than holding fast. This helps reduce the risk of injury. If a strap is damaged, it’s easy to replace by moving the unit onto a new strap with a screwdriver.
We take such pride in this design that we named the company after it - Monil, derived from the Latin word for necklace.
Monil guides animals using gentle, directional cues that help them learn and respect virtual boundaries. After a short training period, cattle learn to respond to sound frequencies as they approach the boundary.
As the animal turns its head, the sound frequency changes, indicating when its movement is aligned with the correct direction to move away from the boundary. Over time, livestock naturally adjust their behavior based on these cues, enabling effective, low-stress containment without physical fences.
The system operates using GPS and cellular connectivity, allowing you to set up and manage virtual fencing anywhere, with no additional infrastructure required.

Because Monil collars rely on the mobile network, a minimum level of cellular connectivity is required at your operation.
What happens if connectivity is lost?
Virtual fences continue to function even if mobile connectivity disappears. The collars use GPS to keep boundaries active and animals contained. Cellular connectivity is required again to adjust fences, track animals, or receive alerts on your mobile device.

Before making the decision, it’s rarely about a single metric. Most farmers look at a combination of factors such as reduced hay or feed use, fewer hours spent building or maintaining fences, avoiding animal losses, and the added flexibility in how they manage their land.
Farmers often expect the value of Monil to come from efficiency gains. However, what surprises them most, is how much peace of mind it delivers, knowing where their cattle are and that they’re okay, even when they’re not in the pasture.
All animals grazing together need to wear collars for the system to work as intended. That said, many farmers choose to start with a single group and expand over time as they become comfortable with the system.
Monil is designed to be flexible, and starting with a smaller group allows farmers to understand how the system fits their farm and evaluate the benefits before scaling up.
Yes. The fence works on GPS, so the collars will keep the animals contained even without mobile connectivity. However, mobile connectivity is necessary to get accurate positioning of the animals, adjust fences, and receive alerts on your mobile device. Connectivity is also required when reallocating animals to new virtual fences.
In order for the system to work, the animal must learn that when it hears the sound signal, they should turn around and go back - otherwise they will receive an electric shock.
This is done by letting the animals graze in a small, physically fenced pasture with virtual fences drawn inside the physical fence. The area must be large enough to ensure animal welfare, but small enough that the animals will frequently interact with the virtual fence over a short period of time.
In the app, you can see how many times a cow has interacted with the fence and received a sound signal or a shock. During training, you want to see the number of sound signals increase and the number of shocks decrease. Ideally, a cow should only receive sound signals.
You should ensure that all cows have interacted with the fence and are showing signs of understanding the sound signal. We also recommend physically observing their interactions with the virtual fence.
The time needed for training varies, but you should expect it to take up to a week.
