In this talk, I will present our work at Elsevier on integrating retrieval-augmented generation and multi-agents into research assistants such as Scopus and ScienceDirect to enhance scientific knowledge discovery. First, I will discuss the development of Scopus AI, a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) system that leverages large language models for query refinement, document retrieval, and reranking. LLMs are also employed for automated evaluation of generated text and hallucination detection. Next, I will explore how we apply RAG techniques in ScienceDirect to improve content accessibility through automated question generation, on-page reading assistants, and topic page generation. These AI-driven features enable researchers to quickly extract relevant insights from vast bodies of scientific literature. Throughout the talk, I will highlight key technical components, including LLM-based retrieval, agentic workflows, and knowledge graph integration.
