🎉Fresh off the press: RWSN - Rural Water Supply Network and African Water and Sanitation Association _ Association Africaine de l'Eau et de l'Assainissement proudly present a landmark publication: 100 African Women Leading Africa's Water & Sanitation Future (1st Edition, 2026) with all 54 African countries represented. This is a celebration of a long-overdue act of recognition. The Visibility Gap in the #WASH sector is a structural barrier that keeps the primary users of water away from the tables where decisions are made. We are using data to break that silence: 📊 1️⃣ The #TimeTax: Women in Sub-Saharan Africa lose 40 billion hours annually to water collection- the equivalent of France’s entire annual labor force. This 'unpaid water work' drains 77 million working days from our economy every year. 📉⏳ 2️⃣ The #Health & #Education Crisis: 76% of births in our region occur in facilities lacking basic water and soap. Over 50% of adolescent girls in countries like Uganda and Ethiopia miss school due to a lack of private sanitation. 🚽 🧼 3️⃣ The Leadership Deficit: Despite performing 76% of the labor, women head only 17% of national water ministries. ⚖️🏢 4️⃣ The Fiscal Reality: Piping water to every home in Africa would cost $11 billion equivalent to just 25 days of the continent's debt service. 💰 📌 A Historic Shift 🔄 These 100 African women in WASH leaders from NASA scientists and utility leaders to researchers and grassroots advocates prove that the WASH crisis is about distribution, governance, and power. This record makes their work visible and documented to foster investment and intergenerational knowledge transfer. Our Call to Action 📢 We invite our partners and donors to use this compendium as your evidence base. Hire these women. Fund their initiatives. Feature their expertise. To the 100 Featured Leaders keep being the change we want to see for our people 🏆 We invite everyone to amplify this recognition, share the compendium in your newsletters and platforms to expand visibility. As we align with the African Union 2026 Theme and Africa Water Vision 2063, we must recognise that where water flows, equality grows. But equality cannot grow if the leaders of the sector remain invisible✊ 📘 Explore the full compendium and meet the women shaping Africa’s future: https://lnkd.in/d8KagQNr Thanks to everyone who made this possible #AfricaWaterLeadership #WomenInWater #WhereWaterFlowsEqualityGrows Temple Chukwuemeka Oraeki Dr Amita Bhakta PhD Sandra van Soelen

💡 New Learning Event: Tools, Trade-Offs, and Takeaways: Exploring Practical Applications of AI for Water Security on Tuesday, April 14 from 9-10:30 am EDT/1-2:30 pm UTC 💧 Water security is about ensuring sustainable access to safe water and sanitation amid growing pressures from population growth, ecological degradation, aging infrastructure, and climate change. In this space, artificial intelligence (AI) can be a powerful tool to make water systems work smarter, faster, and be more adaptive. While many organizations and practitioners working in the sector recognize AI's potential, many are not yet sure how to apply it to their work. Convened by Millennium Water Alliance (MWA), The Water Project, World Resources Institute, Aquaya, and Baobab Tech, this event will explore practical case studies of how AI is being applied across the water security and resilience sectors. Through examples at different stages of development, from early design to tools already in use, speakers will share what it looks like to conceive, build, and launch AI-enabled solutions as well as the lessons and trade-offs that emerge along the way. The event will also include a panel discussion on the limitations of AI, where it works most effectively, and key ethical and environmental considerations. We hope you will join us for an insightful discussion. it was great connecting with fellow WASH colleagues in Bangkok yesterday and discuss current WASH knowledge management practices and challenges of the various humanitarian WASH agencies and institutions. We look forward to continue the conversation to see to what extend the SANIHUB can support and complement existing efforts and what can be learned from existing practices.
