Great discussions at the Österreichische Gesellschaft für Sterilgutversorgung (ÖGSV) Congress, held on 14–15 April 2026. Maik Rohland, Steriking® representative, was on site meeting visitors and exchanging insights. Wipak Oy, the manufacturer of Steriking® sterilization packaging, has been awarded the EcoVadis Silver medal, an independent assessment that reviews environmental performance, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable purchasing. This recognition reflects our commitment to transparency and our continuous journey toward EcoVadis Platinum by 2030. Healthcare is estimated to account for 4–5% of global CO₂ emissions. As a manufacturer of Steriking sterile barrier systems, we recognize our role in helping the sector reduce its footprint. Our sustainability work is based on science and verified data. Wipak has been Operationally Carbon Neutral since 2022, meaning all Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions are reduced and any unavoidable residual emissions are fully offset via certified climate projects. Some of the concrete actions behind this include: • 96.8% of the electricity used across our 11 manufacturing sites comes from sustainable sources • Continuous efficiency improvements and waste reduction programs at all sites • Recovering heat from production lines and using it to heat our facilities • Investing in new, energy efficient production technology that lowers our environmental impact There is only one planet, and every improvement matters. This is the first step in sharing our sustainability journey. Recently, Jyri Mäkinen, our Global Sales Manager of Steriking® products, had a privilege of visiting the Mercy Ships vessel Africa Mercy™ during a holiday. "Witnessing the incredible work this organization does to bring hope and healing to those without access to surgical care was a deeply moving experience," Jyri says.   What Does Mercy Ships Do? Mercy Ships is an international humanitarian organization that provides free, life-changing surgical care and healthcare training in developing countries -especially in Africa -using hospital ships. Key Activities: - Free surgeries such as cataract removal, orthopedic procedures, facial reconstruction, and burn treatments for people without access to medical care. - Training local healthcare professionals to ensure sustainable impact after the ship departs. - Donating medical equipment and renovating hospitals in collaboration with local authorities. - Partnering with governments and health ministries for long-term healthcare development. - Operating two hospital ships— Africa Mercy™ and Global Mercy™ —equipped with operating rooms, ICUs, and rehabilitation facilities. - Powered by volunteers: doctors, nurses, technicians, cooks, teachers, and many others donate their time and expertise.   With more than half of the world's population living near coastlines, hospital ships are an effective way to provide care where it is most needed.
