Following the 2019–2020 Black Summer bushfires, Matt Chan, Principal Architect at Scale Architecture, was commissioned to rebuild a much-loved family home originally constructed by the owner’s father. Located in Rosedale, New South Wales, the new home needed to stay within budget while meeting stringent BAL 40 bushfire requirements. Through considered design and the strategic use of resilient materials, including roofing and cladding made from COLORBOND® steel in Manor Red®, the result is a vibrant coastal home. It balances durability and functionality while maintaining a strong connection to its natural bushland surroundings. The recent TRANSFORM 2026 conference, the Green Building Council of Australia’s flagship sustainability event, provided a fantastic opportunity for the BlueScope sustainability team to connect with @Bondor. Bondor’s insulated panel systems are manufactured using BlueScope COLORBOND® steel, supporting durable, high-performance walling and roofing solutions across a range of applications. BlueScope supports Bondor Insulated Panels with accurate, third-party verified EPDs for COLORBOND® steel, recognised under the GBCA Green Star Responsible Products Framework. We also heard from Geoff Marsdon, Executive General Manager, Bondor Metecno Australia, who shared valuable insights on modularity and modern methods of construction. Pictured at the BlueScope stand is Geoff with Philippa Stone, Sustainability Manager at BlueScope. It was a great opportunity to connect in person, and BlueScope is pleased to continue supporting Bondor with trusted sustainability information and high‑quality COLORBOND® steel solutions. #TRANSFORM2026 #GBCA #Bondor #COLORBONDsteel #GreenStar #ResponsibleSteel #GreenTag #EPD

Defined by sweeping curves, sculptural brick volumes, and a striking golden fly tower, the Round Performing Arts Centre, designed by BKK Architects and Kerstin Thompson Architects, truly captures the imagination. Located in Melbourne’s east, this cultural landmark is truly shaped by its community and its context. Innovative and creative steel applications also played a key role in bringing the centre to life. Lightweight framing made from TRUECORE® steel enabled the precise prefabrication required for the building’s curved masonry facade, while COLORBOND® steel in the Metallic finish Callisto® crowns the structure, providing a striking contrast against the Victorian skyline. Last week, the BlueScope sustainability team attended the Green Building Council of Australia’s #TRANSFORM2026 conference. During the two-day event, the team shared insights with peers from across the built environment sector while also exploring and explored emerging trends in circularity and sustainable design. A key highlight for the team included discussions on increasing circular outcomes through strategies such as design for disassembly, de-fit, and reuse. A key session, delivered by Al Baxter (Populus) and James Wewer (Lendlease), showcased how the Western Sydney Stadium puts these ideas into practice, providing a detailed and practical case study of circular thinking in action. How do you bring joy to a space? For Ben Peake, award-winning architect at Carter Williamson Architects, this is a question he centres every design process around. In the latest edition of STEEL PROFILE®, Ben explains how bringing joy to a space is about embracing the playful potential of design while maximising the strength and precision of steel. From the serpentine-like roof of the Woodcroft Neighbourhood Centre to the elegant curves of Wurrungwuri in Sydney, Peake transforms everyday structures into imaginative yet functional architectural experiences. The backbone to his creativity is working with steel, as it allows him to create spaces that are truly unique and ooze character. His work is a celebration of both heritage and contemporary, crafting buildings that connect with communities while leaving a lasting architectural legacy. Yesterday at #TRANSFORM2026, we were proud to sponsor an insightful session on “Circularity in Practice". Using the Western Sydney Stadium as a focal point, the panel explored how designing for disassembly can extend the lifecycle of steel in the built environment. In conversation with Kat Featherstone (Green Building Council of Australia), Al Baxter (Populous) and James Wewer (Lendlease) discussed practical strategies for achieving more circular outcomes in design and construction and delivering real impact on large-scale projects. Yesterday’s sessions were both thought-provoking and inspiring, and we’re excited for what day two has in store. If you’re attending, Philippa Stone and the BlueScope sustainability team, including Judith Schinabeck, Ishan Jain and Laura Guccione, would love to connect. #GBCA #BlueScope #Circularity

“We wanted to create a playful atmosphere with adaptive and agile spaces to meet the needs of an entrepreneurial specialist school.” Designed by JPE Design Studio, Seaton High School’s new Learning Centre in Adelaide redefines what a modern educational environment can be. Its flexible classrooms and breakout spaces are specifically designed to inspire collaboration, creativity, and curiosity. Defined by bold angles and sharp vertical ribs, the centre’s cladding, crafted from Fielders Prominence® 700, establishes a seamless form that draws the eye upward. Finished in the COLORBOND® steel colour of Conservatory®, the building’s surface subtly shifts as light moves across it, adding dynamism to the façade. The roof, also made from COLORBOND® steel in Shale Grey™, supports the project’s sustainability goals while complementing its setting among the site’s established tree canopy.
