  • Yesterday was the IA's 2026 Annual Policy Conference and what a moment for the industry! With over 60 speakers, 900 delegates and 24 hours of content across all breakout spaces, it was our biggest event yet. Standouts included a keynote by Rachel Blake, Economic Secretary to the Treasury, delivering her first address to the investment management industry as City Minister, to Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England, closing the main stage with insights on growth, productivity, and the transformative potential of AI and tokenisation. We were delighted to involve a number of Engine members in the event, including Level E Research, Agentic Risks, FundSense, Reg-X Innovations, and a presentation by Jacob Ayres-Thomson of 3AI, moderated by Henry Bewley, who shared fascinating perspectives on how AI-generated alpha is reshaping the economics of asset management. A huge thank you to all our speakers, attendees and partners for making #IAConf2026 such a success.

  • A very exciting launch from one of our latest innovators, Orbit Financial Technology - find out more below!

Today we're launching Orbit Agent Builder. A first for institutional research platforms. For two years, every fund CIO we have spoken to has been asking the same thing. Their teams want AI inside the research workflow. No platform on the market builds what they actually need. Today, that changes. https://lnkd.in/dNt6s855 Orbit Agent Builder lets institutional investment teams create their own production-grade AI research agents through plain conversation. Describe a workflow, upload a methodology document, or both. Orbit turns it into an agent that runs autonomously on whatever schedule you set. Every agent becomes a native MCP endpoint, ready to plug into Claude, ChatGPT Enterprise, Copilot, or whichever AI tool your team already uses. No code. No consulting engagement. No waiting. These are conversations that matter deeply to us at Orbit. The full story is in today's press release. https://lnkd.in/dNt6s855 #AIInvestmentResearch #AgenticAI #BuySide #MCP

What a way to round off a huge week for We Are Gretel. Last night, we were named Technology Provider of the Year (Platform) at the MoneyAge Wealth & Asset Management Awards — a moment of recognition that means a great deal to all of us working to solve one of financial services’ most persistent challenges: reconnecting people with lost and forgotten savings and investments. I was genuinely gutted not to be able to attend in person, with personal circumstances taking me out of the country, but I could not be prouder of the team and what this moment represents. It came at the end of a week that has been extraordinary by any measure: a massive shout out on national television, tens of thousands of people signing up, millions of pounds reunited as a result, being named in the TechRound Fintech 50 for the third year running, and now this amazing award. For me, the most important part is what this recognition represents. Gretel’s role is not just about technology for its own sake. It is about helping investment and asset management firms deliver better outcomes for their customers. Through our partnership with the brilliant team at The Investment Association, we are helping create a more joined-up, accessible and consumer-focused sector, and one that also supports the wider objectives of the Dormant Assets Scheme. Huge thanks to MoneyAge and the judging panel for their incredible support, to our clients, partners and supporters across the industry, and especially to the Gretel team. Weeks like this do not happen by accident. They are the result of belief, persistence and a shared commitment to doing something that genuinely matters. Onwards and upwards!

Blunt agentic AI adoption strategies have inherent flaws: • Permissive access with post-event monitoring sacrifices control. • While full pre-approval constrains scalability. A risk-based strategy is superior: by classifying AI agents into risk tiers and applying stronger controls where the risk is highest, your adoption strategy will be productive, enforceable, and defensible at scale. For example, you could assign low-risk agents to a register-and-attest process, medium-risk agents to a proportionate review, and high-risk agents to full governance. Our latest article explores this comparison in detail and explains how to implement a risk-based adoption strategy as part of your broader agentic transformation. If you would like to learn more and hear what your peers think, join The Investment Association’s webinar on Agentic Risk Appetite and Adoption Strategies between 15:00 and 16:00 on Wednesday, 13 May, when Adam Davis and I will cover this in detail (and more). I’ll add the registration link to the comments. Lawrence Baker Gillian Painter Henry Bewley Maisha Rashid #AIAgents #AgenticRiskManagement #AIGovernance #RiskManagement

Interest in performance attribution is accelerating as investment firms respond to growing complexity across data, strategies and reporting expectations. That shift is setting the stage for our third roundtable, Reinventing Performance Attribution: Data-Driven Leadership for a New Era, hosted in collaboration with Fencore and Flametree Technologies On 21st May in London, we will bring together senior leaders from large asset managers for a focused discussion on how interoperability, AI and private markets are reshaping attribution. This builds on a strong track record of past events, that have featured senior representatives from firms such as Allianz Global Investors , Schroders and M&G. Joining as moderator, Tom Brewer Partner at Alpha Alternatives, will share perspectives informed by his work across private markets innovation and transformation. Topics are carefully curated, to reflect the key issues in modern attribution, and what they mean for the future of performance insight and decision making. Designed as a peer-led session, the roundtable will encourage open and insightful discussion between industry experts navigating similar challenges and opportunities. We will share key takeaways following the discussion, including the themes and perspectives shaping the next phase of attribution. In the meantime, explore our latest insights to see how we are helping firms strengthen performance analysis and reporting, including our whitepapers from previous roundtables: https://lnkd.in/ew7rgr2A #roundtable #datamanagement #investmentmanagement #performanceattribution
