Watch my new video on IBM Bob YouTube channel: "IBM Bob for IBM watsonx Orchestrate: Create MCP Tools and Agents". See Bob in action, taking a plain-English prompt all the way from design and architecture to deployment in watsonx Orchestrate. Bob plans the project, builds an MCP server with two tools, writes unit tests, validates everything end-to-end with an MCP client with error handling, then imports the tools and creates a working agent in watsonx Orchestrate. I highly encourage you to subscribe to Bob YouTube channel for more videos from Bob friends, including Alex Soto, Maximilian Jesch, and Tim Rowe, showcasing how Bob helps across DevSecOps, observability, security, application modernization, and IBM i transformation. A big thank you to Maximilian Jesch and Martin Keen for your contributions and guidance on editing the video, and thank you to Neel Sundaresan for your overall support and encouragement. https://lnkd.in/dnYP-gEp

I’m excited to be speaking at IBM TechCon 2026 from March 17–19. Each day, join us for a short break session with IBM Research and IBM Bob, focused on one simple question: How do Java teams turn AI hype into production-ready systems? We’ll talk about using AI in large, real-world Java and Quarkus codebases. Not demos. Not prompt tricks. But disciplined, verifiable, enterprise-grade development that actually scales. If you’re curious how to go from hype to how with IBM, this one’s for you. What happens when AI agents reason and take action over real-time events instead of working from delayed snapshots? Excited to share our latest hands-on tutorial: "Building an event-driven agentic AI system with Apache Kafka on Confluent Cloud, IBM watsonx Orchestrate, with the help of IBM Bob" on IBM Developer, co-authored with Moisés Domínguez. Real-time events change the game. When agents can observe what is happening as it happens, they can reason with the freshest operational truth and respond with the right business context. This tutorial shows a practical pattern for that: ⦿ Apache Kafka topics on Confluent Cloud as the real-time event backbone. ⦿ ksqlDB stream processing to keep an always up-to-date "current state" topic as events arrive. ⦿ watsonx Orchestrate multi-agents to consume live signals and coordinate decisions. ⦿ Agentic RAG to enrich real-time events with context from enterprise documents. ⦿ Bob as software development partner to speed up everything from Kafka and ksqlDB configuration, to publishing events, to building MCP tools and watsonx Orchestrate agents This unlocks agent behavior that is faster, more explainable, and more context-aware, especially for retail (as shown in the tutorial), operations, risk, supply chain, banking, insurance, customer service, and IT. Thank you to Ela Dixit, Monisankar Das, Sreelakshmi Aechiraju, and Michelle Corbin for the reviews and contributions.
