About us

Marketing used to lack the professional milestones needed to mark different stages of a career path. That was until the Chartered Marketer (CM) program was introduced by the Canadian Marketing Association. Today, CM stands as Canada’s only industry-recognized professional designation. Just as important is the role the program plays in helping learners stay on top of trends and best practices in a fast-changing industry that demands quick adaptation to new platforms and strategies.

Canada doesn't talk enough about how strong its marketing community actually is. 🍁 Recently, I had the opportunity to speak with a room of Chartered Marketers at the Canadian Marketing Association's CM + CEO luncheon. The conversations were a great reminder of why this industry matters more beyond integrated campaigns and content calendars. The discussion centred on CMA + Signal49 Research's new report "Uncovering the Value of Marketing in Canada." The numbers are worth knowing: ➡️ Marketing contributed $131 billion to Canada's GDP in 2024. ➡️ Nearly 1 in 25 jobs is a marketing role. ➡️ 75% of Canadian marketers are using generative AI weekly, more than any other knowledge profession in the country, including scientists. Grateful to have been in the room with: ⏺️ Esther Benzie, MBA, ICD.D, incoming President & CEO of the CMA, taking on an exciting mission to continue growing CMA's impact. ⏺️ Alison Simpson, outgoing President & CEO, whose leadership shaped so much of what this association stands for today. ⏺️ Several fellow CMs: Elle R., Eva Hongya He, CM, Hussein Moussa, EMBA, CM, Miglena Nikolova, CM, MBA, Olga Z., Syed Zahidi, and more, who all brought exciting ideas to the table. Community, mentorship, and shared standards are what elevate a profession from a job category into something that moves our country forward. Thank you to the Canadian Marketing Association for continuing to build that movement. Full report in comments. Let me know what stood out most to you. 👇 #CharteredMarketer #CanadianMarketing #CMA #SustainableMedia #ProfessionalDevelopment #PersonalGrowth #MarketingSector

It's official. I'm a Chartered Marketer. Excited to share that I've earned my Chartered Marketer (CM) designation from the Canadian Marketing Association! This wasn't just a certification—it was 3 months of deep learning, unlearning, and rethinking what marketing really means. From A.I. integration that enhances marketing execution to strategic frameworks & creative tactics, this journey pushed me to zoom out and connect the dots between creativity, business, and human behavior. This designation reminded me that great marketing isn't just about driving sales—it's about telling real stories for real people and solving real problems. I’m so excited to continue my learning journey while applying my knowledge to every upcoming project, campaign and relationship, driving success for me and my teams but more importantly, having fun doing so. Grateful to the Canadian Marketing Association for building a program that's both rigorous and transformative. A special shoutout to Lindsay Chase for her mentorship, guidance and encouragement. Your expertise and belief in me were pivotal to this journey. Now comes the best part—putting this into practice and continuing to grow through the CM community and ongoing CPD. Ready for what's next. Certificate link can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eYCBWfwF #CharteredMarketer #CMA #GetYourCM #ProfessionalDevelopment

Earlier this month, i officially became a Chartered Marketer. Some milestones don’t arrive with fanfare, they arrive with clarity. Earning the Chartered Marketer (CM) designation from the Canadian Marketing Association has been one of those moments for me. Not because of the credential itself, but because of what the journey demanded: disciplined thinking, financial rigour, strategic coherence, and the ability to translate marketing decisions into measurable business outcomes. The program pushed me to refine how I evaluate markets, test assumptions, model scenarios, and build strategies that hold up in executive rooms, not just in theory decks. It also sharpened my understanding of how I operate as a marketing professional and business advisor: how I think, where I create value, and how I lead strategy in complex business environments. Grateful to Dr. Jeffrey Patrick O'Leary and Amir Ekhlassi, PhD for the guidance along the way. Proud to add CM to my toolkit.

  • What are you doing to drive real-world impact? Michaela Milenovska, CM, Consultant at BC Hydro, shifted from chasing short-term performance wins to setting "goals that ladder up to a bigger vision." Her transformation? Learning that sustainable growth comes from aligning data, brand, customer experience, and purpose — not just immediate conversions. Now she's leveraging marketing as a force for meaningful change in clean energy, proving that the best marketers think beyond ROI to drive societal impact. So this is a bit of a late post but better late than never right? A few months ago, I earned my Chartered Marketer designation!! 🎉 This has been on my list for years and there’s something especially meaningful about completing it while working at the Canadian Marketing Association. The final summit course was incredibly rigorous. It required a full industry analysis, competitive landscape assessment, financial forecasting, segmentation, and a complete strategic marketing plan built into an executive-ready presentation. I spent a lot of time refining it, pressure-testing assumptions, and iterating on the strategy. The CM really strengthened how I connect marketing strategy to real business outcomes and refined my financial acumen in the process. Additionally, it helped me better understand myself as a marketer: how I think, how I work, and where I can have the most impact. I'm really proud to have finished this. And very grateful to Dr. Jeffrey Patrick O'Leary for all the support throughout the program!

  • Earlier this week, it was great to gather in-person at the CMA office in Toronto and virtually for our Chartered Marketers across Canada at our latest CM + CEO Luncheon and Chat events. It was a meaningful opportunity to hear from outgoing CEO Alison Simpson as she introduced the CMA's new CEO, Esther Benzie, MBA, ICD.D. We're grateful for Alison's dedication to advancing the marketing profession and excited for the future ahead. Esther shared her first 90-day plan since joining the Canadian Marketing Association offering insights into her vision for our organization and the marketing profession. She also highlighted compelling findings from the Signal49 Research Marketing Impact Study, which demonstrates the significant economic contribution of marketing to the Canadian economy. These gatherings remind us why being an active part of the CM community matters. Connection, collaboration and continuous learning are what set Chartered Marketers apart. Stay tuned for our next CM events. And mark your calendars for CMA Marketing Week 2026 presented by Loblaw Advance running from May 4 to 8, 2026. It's a premier opportunity to represent the CM community and gain practical insights (plus a great way to earn some CPD credits). #CharteredMarketer #CMCommunity #MarketingLeadership #CanadianMarketing #CMAMarketingWeek

  • If your organization trusted you to lead boldly, what would you do? Collin Phillip, MMktg, MBA, CM, CEO of Verdex Capital, answered this question when he "planted the seed" for what became the largest customer contest in Canadian agriculture history. The 'Seed for Life' campaign at Corteva Agriscience was more than a promotional success; it proved marketing drives behaviour, shapes perceptions, strengthens customer loyalty, and grows business. A defining moment like this proved to Collin that great marketing goes beyond creativity; the freedom to be bold can lead to creating measurable business impact. When leadership trusts marketers to think strategically and act boldly, good things happen. https://lnkd.in/eEp2SkHV #GetYourCM #MarketingLeadership #MarketingStrategy #Leadership
