Had an incredible conversation with Chris Traganos Amazon developer evangelist, about our first-ever open API Ring product: the Ring Appstore.   When we started Ring in my garage, the mission was simple: make neighborhoods safer. But as millions of Ring cameras found their way into homes and businesses, I realized we had an opportunity to do something more with the information they were already capturing. These aren't just cameras anymore—they're tools that can solve real problems for real people.   That's what the Ring Appstore is all about. We're opening up Ring devices so developers can build apps that turn cameras into specialized tools. Whether you're a small business owner who needs custom alerts for your storefront, or you're looking for help tracking safety around your pool at home, the Appstore gives you more ways to use the device you already own.   Chris and I talked about how developers can build for the Appstore. The infrastructure is there. The customer base is there. And most importantly, the problems waiting to be solved are there. We're looking for builders who see what we see—that a camera can be so much more than a camera when you pair it with the right software and the right mission.   I can’t wait to see what developers build, and how our customers use it!

Why open Ring APIs to third-party developers? I asked Jamie Siminoff, Chief Inventor & Founder of Ring, to explain it directly. What stood out to me is how intentional this launch was 👉 Advances in AI expand what Ring cameras can support well beyond traditional security, and many of those experiences are best built by teams with deep domain knowledge. For developers, this opens up a lot of room to experiment. 🎥 In this clip, Jamie explains why now makes sense for developers building app integrations with Ring. Designing for TV requires a focused approach. ✅ Simple, linear layouts help viewers move through content without friction. ✅ Strong focus states keep navigation predictable with a remote. ✅ Larger text improves readability from across the room. ✅ High-contrast elements support visibility on varied displays. These principles form the foundation of the 10-foot experience. The Ultimate Guide to React Native TV Development outlines how to apply them in real interfaces so your TV app feels clear, stable, and comfortable to use. Get your copy ➡️ link in the comments!
