Pull weeds for a community garden.
Center of Community Outreach at The University of Kansas
It was really great getting to know the people in my community that use the local garden and I knew they appreciated all the help.
-
Volunteer for the Seed Library Initiative
Lawrence Public Library
- 5 months
Education
I helped count, sort, package, and label donated seeds for different gardening plants. These seeds were then included in the library as a Seed Library for anyone to use for their own personal garden. The goal of this was to teach the benefits of gardening to the community and give people the opportunity to start their own garden at little cost.

Volunteer
Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County
- Present 9 years 4 months
Several friends and I went to help put up dry wall in a home for a family. We were given brief instructions and tools in order to accomplish our task. This experience not only taught me how to work with my hands but also taught me the importance volunteers have in an organization like Habitat.

Funding Advisory Committee for Engineering
EECS Representative
-Allocate School of Engineering funds to engineering organizations. I sit on a panel of other students who represent the different departments within the School and listen to organizations present why they need the funding. We then, as a group, decided how our money should be distributed to the organizations.
