Many folks underestimate the long-tail effects which good blog posts can have. It's easy to be discouraged when writing something, and then there are no reactions to it at all. Yet, in some cases, I've received comments and feedback for posts months after publishing them. Some of them keep being shared years later. So focus on writing high value pieces and have some patience, they'll find their readership eventually. Blogging is a long game.

I’ve just published the next installment in my "Theory of Durable Execution" series. Across frameworks we hear terms like workflows, activities, virtual objects, handlers, and functions. Underneath the terminology, they’re all describing a small number of execution patterns. We just crossed the 100th GitHub issue threshold in our work on the W3C's Web Sustainability Guidelines (WSGs for short, because we love acronyms). Recommendations in the spec are evolving quickly based on an incredibly passionate group of smart volunteer technologists, designers, developers, content strategists, and business leaders. Next version will come out in September for horizontal review as we barrel toward our goal of publishing first a W3C Note next April and, eventually, a W3C Statement. The AI Transition is Coming - Here's How I'm Responding With warnings of mass job displacement due to AI, I've been deeply concerned about the future workforce our children’s generation will enter. As this transition looms, we must devote more attention, experimentation, and commitment to supporting the human side of this equation. That’s why we started July AI (gojuly.ai) in late 2024: Reinventing economic opportunity for humans in the AI era. We are lucky to have begun our journey with trusted investors and advisors including Basis Set, SV Angel, Liquid 2 Ventures, Night Capital, Olive Capital, and Applied Intuition CEO Qasar Younis just to name a few. Anthropic announced a new tool called Claude Cowork, and it was mostly built by Claude itself in under two weeks. Developers oversaw multiple Claude instances working together to design features, fix bugs, and shape the early Alpha release.  It’s funny... It’s wild... And it’s also a bit unsettling that we’re now at the stage where AI systems are actively building other AI systems. 😅 Just another Wednesday in the age of agents. Seems like the next big question isn’t can AI build AI, it’s how do we make sure it builds responsibly? Anyone else had a “Wait...AI did that?” moment recently?

New post: Two strategies to succeed when AI seems to be eroding jobs around you This past year in the tech comm community, there's been a lot of angst about job security with AI. In this post, I argue that our roles are shifting from writers to content directors. In this new role, the skills we need for success are two-fold. I propose that we focus on developing (1) deep subject matter expertise and (2) tools expertise. I also share my optimistic view about why technical writers will remain essential in a future with ever-expanding technology. The tldr for that argument is that even as AI might remove some jobs, the exponential growth of tech will create more opportunities and needs for documentation. I added a parallel interpreter to the Kestrel library (https://lnkd.in/gXwMTfTj), allowing subqueries to run with parallelism, while maintaining the same high-level API for users. This is using Unison's green threads, async programming support, and abilities, which let you write straight-line code and have it turned into a pretty intricate program that does parallel processing.
