Legacy products are stuck in 1990s technology, and industrial orgs need to do far more with their operational data: more data, faster decisions, and now AI. Today we announced TimescaleDB Enterprise: commercial packaging of our Postgres-based time-series database -- HA, backups, monitoring, admin console, optional cloud sync -- for on-prem and edge. We also unveiled a strategic alliance with Inductive Automation. End-to-end: Ignition at the edge and plant → TimescaleDB Enterprise at each site → Tiger Cloud across the enterprise. Physical AI will run on factories, grids, and fleets, and it needs an open, SQL-native time-series foundation from sensor to cloud. This release introduces parallel indexing, which can reduce indexing times by 4x or more, along with stability and correctness fixes, including for hypertables. That felt ambitious. Today? We're at nearly 3 petabytes stored, 3 trillion metrics ingested daily, and over 1 quadrillion metrics recorded total. And this isn't running on some special internal cluster: this runs on a standard Tiger Cloud instance. Same features you get. No special infrastructure, no hidden magic. How we keep it fast at this scale: - Hypertables with aggressive compression (60 TB - 12 TB active dataset) - Tiered storage for the overwhelming majority of 3 PB - Continuous aggregates rolling up UDDSketches into a hierarchical tree - Smart sampling (25% raw records) while capturing 3x more metrics per query We haven't even needed read replicas yet. And Amazon is now our biggest partner. The entrepreneurial whiplash is real. Let me tell you a story. November 2018. My wife and I are in a NYC taxi with our one-month-old daughter, heading to the pediatrician. I’m running on 3 hours of broken sleep when the Slack notifications start flooding in. Amazon just launched “Timestream” - a direct Timescale competitor, seemingly copying our messaging almost word-for-word. The panic hit immediately: They’ll crush us with their sales machine. Our customers started asking how we compared. A Gartner IoT analyst literally called me because his customers were asking about Timestream versus other time-series databases. Then something unexpected happened. The early product feedback came in. Customers started complaining Timestream was “expensive as hell.” The technical limitations became obvious. We realized this wasn’t competition - it was validation of our approach, but with a worse product. 6.5 years later: Timestream is closed to new customers. We’re still growing fast. And Amazon? One of our biggest partners now. And a genuinely fun team to work with. Here's what I learned: Giant competitors copying you isn't a death sentence. It's just proof you are onto something big. The key is simple: Just don’t die. Build a better product. Serve customers better. Outlast the noise. That’s entrepreneurship - one moment you’re getting punched in the face by a giant, the next you’re working together.

Calling all businesses in Ireland: is your payroll ready for auto-enrolment? From 1 January, auto-enrolment becomes a payroll reality for employers across Ireland. While the legislation may feel new, the impact will be immediate and it sits squarely with payroll. At Lucas White Payroll, we’ve been running auto-enrolment payroll schemes for over 10 years. From experience, the biggest risk right now isn’t the change itself, it’s assuming you have more time than you do. Registration with the My Future Fund portal opened on 1 December and closes on 31 December 2025. With the deadline fast approaching, here are five things every employer needs to have in place now. 1. Absolute clarity on employee eligibility Your payroll must correctly identify who needs to be enrolled, when they qualify, and how opt-outs are handled, automatically and compliantly. Have you fully accounted for globally mobile employees? 2. Accurate payroll data, right now The scheme (also known as My Future Fund) applies to employees aged 23 - 60 earning €20,000 or more, who are not already contributing to a workplace pension or PRSA through payroll. Contributions are calculated on earnings up to €80,000 after tax. Auto-enrolment depends on clean, up-to-date data. Missing dates of birth, incorrect earnings, or contract errors will create issues quickly. Check ages and salary bands carefully to ensure no one is missed. 3. Correct contribution calculations Employer and employee contributions must be calculated, deducted, and reported accurately every pay run. Manual workarounds will not scale and will expose you to risk. 4. Payroll systems tested before go-live Waiting until January to “see how it goes” is risky. Payroll systems should already be configured, tested, and stress-checked. With only days left, delays now could be costly. 5. Clear communication with employees Payroll will be the first point of contact for questions. Clear messaging and consistent processes will reduce confusion, save time, and protect your reputation. Auto-enrolment has been expected in Ireland for some time, but proactive communication remains essential, particularly when pay is involved. Auto-enrolment doesn’t have to be disruptive, but it does need to be planned. Having supported businesses through auto-enrolment for over a decade, we know where employers typically get caught out and how to avoid it. If you’re not completely confident your payroll is ready, now is the moment to act. We can help. Payroll compliance is simplest and safest when it’s built correctly from day one.
