We have an EIR, so BIM will make our projects better.   I see this mindset often from the client side and it’s Wrong.   BIM only delivers value if what you ask for is actually delivered, and if you use that information to reach your project goals.   For example, Latvian law states: “The construction initiator, in accordance with the design contract, participates in the design process by providing the necessary information and, insofar as it concerns the verification of their own stated requirements, approves the solutions proposed by the design developer.”   In short, having an EIR isn’t enough. Active involvement is key.

Finland's Energy Tax Shift: A Wake-Up Call for the Nordic Data Center Sector and a Golden Opportunity for Estonia Finland has long been seen as a powerhouse in the Nordic data center landscape, offering robust infrastructure, low ambient temperatures, and crucially heavily discounted electricity tax rates for the data center sector. But that advantage is now under threat. The Finnish government has confirmed plans to eliminate the near-zero electricity tax for data centers. This change will increase the tax rate from an ultra-low 0.0006 €/kWh to the standard 0.0225 €/kWh, amounting to a 375-fold increase in tax burden for power-intensive infrastructure. For context, a 100 MW data center operating at 80% utilisation would face an additional annual cost of €18 million. This is not just a minor policy shift — it is a paradigm change that fundamentally alters the risk profile of the Finnish DC sector. Investor confidence will take a hit. Operators that previously flocked to Finland to take advantage of tax relief are now reassessing long-term ROI. Several voices from within the industry have expressed concern about the "erratic" nature of energy tax policy and its chilling effect on new development. But while Finland tightens the belt, Estonia stands at a crossroads of opportunity. With its 1,000 MW of HVDC import capacity, high power reliability, and growing digital infrastructure ecosystem, Estonia is increasingly attractive for hyperscale data centers. What’s more, Estonia currently offers a stable energy taxation regime and is actively investing in direct current (DC) microgrid capabilities. Estonia has the means, the grid, and now the moment. The question is whether policymakers and infrastructure developers are ready to seize it. By reinforcing a competitive and stable fiscal environment for data center operators, Estonia can cement its position as the next Nordic-Baltic digital hub. A team from Vilniaus universitetas / Vilnius University has proposed a new method for constructing soliton arrays that spiral in a nonlinear thermal medium: https://bit.ly/4llw7qv This research, published in #OPG_OL, positions the solitons on two concentric rings centered around the medium's core, enabling the development of arrays with both rotational and nonrotational symmetries. The team found that the arrangement of the solitons is reminiscent of astronomical phenomena, specifically multi-orbit planets revolving around the same star in astrophysics. As a result, this optical analogy could be utilized to explore and study various astronomical phenomena. A student team from KTH Royal Institute of Technology has developed a winning concept for NIBE that reimagines the heat pump industry through a circular, service-based model, "NIBE ComplHeat", which was praised for rethinking both ownership and lifecycle management of heat pump systems. Six student teams were challenged to propose new services that reduce material use, extend product lifetimes, and create profitable business models in line with upcoming EU requirements. Over five intensive days, the teams explored how NIBE's products and digital services could be developed to meet expectations for sustainability, user-friendliness, and long-term value creation. The project, created by third-year energy systems students in close collaboration with NIBE, proposes "heat as a service" instead of traditional product ownership. Instead of buying a heat pump, customers would subscribe to reliable indoor comfort delivered and managed by NIBE. The model gives the manufacturer full control over maintenance, performance, and the entire product life cycle – enabling refurbishment, reuse, and more efficient recycling of returned units – a shift that the jury praised as both innovative and in line with future EU requirements. The final presentations were held at Scandic Anglais in Stockholm before a joint KTH-NIBE jury, consisting of Professor Per Lundqvist and Harald Ingemarsson from Kungliga Tekniska högskolan and Martin Forsén, Emma Tidstrand, Claes Hemberg, and Emma Hällgren from NIBE AB. The jury noted that the ideas were unusually strong and the competition extremely tough. Two buildings of Arkońska Business Park, the first office park in Gdańsk, have been purchased by GetResponse Properties, a company affiliated with GetResponse, a provider of an email marketing platform and online campaign management. The office buildings, which will now be known as Nowa Arkońska, have a total leasable area of ​​nearly 11.200 square meters.   TORUS, which built the entire complex years ago and has a deep understanding of the area, will be the partner in this project and will also be responsible for the Property and Facility Management of Nowa Arkońska.   The architectural design of the Arkońska Business Park complex was created by the APA Wojciechowski Sp. z o.o.
