Check out these 9 major projects and developments shaping Detroit’s future in 2026 and beyond! 🏗️🌆 Across the city and neighborhoods throughout Detroit, projects are moving forward that will influence how people live, work, gather, and visit Detroit in the years ahead. Between large-scale development, neighborhood investment, and public space advancements, 2026 marks a key moment in how the city continues to move forward. Below is a roundup of just some of the projects to keep an eye on as we dive into the new year! 👀⬇️ The Monroe Streetscape project in Greektown is transforming one of Detroit's most historic corridors into a safer, more pedestrian-forward public space with work continuing through summer 2026. 🇬🇷 The Gordie Howe International Bridge is expected to open as soon as early 2026, creating a new Detroit–Windsor crossing designed to support regional connectivity with six lanes and a toll-free multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists. 🌉 The Joe Louis Greenway, a planned 27.5-mile loop of public trails and greenways connecting Detroit neighborhoods and parks continues to take shape. In October 2025, a new 2.3-mile segment opened with the Grand River and Oakman trailhead and a statue honoring Joe Louis. As of late 2025, nearly 6 miles are open with additional segments under construction and work continuing into 2026. 🚲 Detroit City FC’s new 15,000-seat soccer-specific stadium, AlumniFi Field, is planned for the former Southwest Detroit Hospital site at Michigan Avenue and 20th Street with a target opening in spring 2027. ⚽ JW Marriott Detroit Water Square is under construction as a 25-story hotel expected to open in 2027 as part of ongoing riverfront development and will be directly connected to Huntington Place via a skybridge. 🏨 The Motown Museum is continuing work on its Hitsville NEXT expansion, a multi-phase $75 million project designed to grow the campus into a 50,000-square-foot destination with a performance theater, recording studio, interactive exhibits, expanded retail, and educational programming. 🎶 COSM Detroit is scheduled for a September 2026 launch downtown near Campus Martius as part of Bedrock’s Cadillac Square development, featuring a 70,000-square-foot entertainment venue and a 34,000-square-foot market hall. 🎥 Hudson’s Detroit is expected to debut The Detroit EDITION, a 5-star hotel inside the 45-story tower with availability beginning in 2027 as the broader development comes online. 🏨 NoMad Hotels announced a 180-room hotel at Michigan Central Station, including 30 suites with plans to open in the first half of 2027. 🏨 Follow us for more Detroit updates and news as we head into 2026! #VisitDetroit #Detroit 📸 Photos and conceptual renderings via Bedrock Detroit, Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority WDBA-APWD, City of Detroit, The JW Marriott Detroit Water Square, Detroit City FC, Motown Museum, and Greektown Neighborhood Partnership. • Earlier this summer, we began a partnership with Wheel the World that brought expert mappers who went into several hotels, restaurants, museums, and attractions across the Detroit area and measured everything that actually matters. Detroit is now Accessibility Verified via Wheel the World, a step to give travelers with disabilities accurate accessibility details for hotels, restaurants, and activities. Detroit has changed a lot over the years, in the best possible ways. Major investments and initiatives have not only brought more tourism, but accessibility has vastly improved. This partnership with Wheel the World also brings tangible, on-the-ground data behind accessibility accolades, like those shared recently by Travel + Leisure that named Detroit the country's most accessible city. So when you plan a trip here, you can trust the accessibility info and choose places that truly fit your needs.

Detroit is not the city many people imagine. And nobody felt that more than multi–gold medal Paralympian Matt Scott when he returned home. Over the years, the Motor City has gone through a real revitalization, investing in its neighborhoods, infrastructure, and tourism. And one of the most meaningful parts of that progress has been a growing commitment to accessibility. 🎉 𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 🎉 That means travelers with disabilities finally have detailed, trusted information about the places they want to visit — from hotels and restaurants to iconic spots like the Henry Ford Museum and Belle Isle Park. And the Riverwalk is a perfect example of that progress, which used to be a stretch of industrial riverfront that most people simply passed by. Today, it’s a completely re-imagined, vibrant 3-mile stretch along the river with green spaces, parks and trails accessible to everyone. So when travelers with disabilities visit, they can actually experience the best Detroit has to offer, and there is a lot. Matt felt this more than ever when he came back to his hometown. Experiencing Detroit through an accessibility lens was powerful for him. He revisited places he grew up with. He shared Detroit food staples with his mom. He rolled along the Riverwalk — a place that looks completely different than it did years ago — and saw a version of Detroit he had never experienced before. And yet, one thing hasn’t changed: the community pride, strength, and energy that Detroit is known for. Here’s to Visit Detroit for the work thery've done, and for showing what investing in tourism and inclusivity can look like in a way that truly impacts people. #AccessibleTravel #Detroit #DMO #DestinationMarketing

It's a new chapter for Detroit's skyline! The 12-story Hudson’s Detroit building at 1240 Woodward is now officially complete. 🏙️📣 Developed by Bedrock Detroit and designed by SHoP Architects, the shorter of the two Hudson’s Detroit structures introduces new office, retail, and event space right along Woodward Avenue. Tenants include General Motors, ROCK, ALO, Tecovas, and The Department at Hudson’s, a 56,000-square-foot venue. Since its debut in Spring 2025, The Department at Hudson’s has already attracted thousands of visitors to Detroit through community-defining events such as Global Citizen NOW, Crain’s Detroit Business Homecoming and Summit Detroit. Boasting 56,000 square feet of flexible space, The Department at Hudson’s is on course to host dozens of events in 2025. Features inside the 12-story building include a seven-story atrium filled with natural light and live vegetation, flexible office suites with skyline views, and amenities such as a café, fitness center, multi-sport simulator, and pickleball court. ☕️📝🌿 The ground level features GM’s new lobby and public showroom, “Entrance One,” a nod to the former J.L. Hudson Department Store’s historic employee entrance on Farmer Street. Nearby, Nick Gilbert Way, a new public plaza honoring the late son of Dan and Jennifer Gilbert, will open November 6 with retail pop-ups, art installations, and community programming. 🎶 When complete, the full Hudson’s Detroit development will include both the newly finished 12-story office and retail building and a 45-story tower with The Detroit EDITION Hotel and The Residences at The Detroit EDITION, featuring dining, a spa, pool, fitness center, and event spaces. The tower is expected to open in 2027. #Detroit #VisitDetroit #DetroitNews #DowntownDetroit

  • Exciting Detroit news! A new 5.8 mile trail that loops around Belle Isle park has opened. 🎉 Named the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Trail, the new path gives walkers, runners, and cyclists a safer way to explore and experience the island! 🚲🚶🏃♀️ Connecting directly to the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, the trail completion marks another Detroit addition that is linking green spaces and attractions across the city. 🌊 The new scenic trail passes by multiple landmarks across the island, including the Belle Isle Conservatory, Belle Isle Nature Center, and others. Visitors can hop on the trail at multiple parts of the island. It also goes below the MacArthur Bridge so visitors can now complete a full loop without having to exit the path. This project is part of the Iron Belle Trail, Michigan’s signature trail network and the longest state-designated trail in the country. The Iron Belle stretches more than 2,000 miles, beginning on Belle Isle and ending in Ironwood in the far western Upper Peninsula. Join us in congratulating the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Belle Isle Conservancy on this exciting addition! #Detroit #DetroitLove #VisitDetroit #DetroitNews

  • SATW in Detroit was one for the books! This past week we had the pleasure of welcoming the Society of American Travel Writers for their 2025 Annual Convention. 🎉 Hosted at some of Detroit’s most iconic venues, we loved welcoming attendees to an unforgettable opening reception at The Henry Ford and a closing celebration at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Harmonie Club and Eastern Market Partnership also set the stage for incredible moments where Detroit’s energy was on full display. A highlight of the week was our panel with Detroit leaders and visionaries across industries at the The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit with Hubert Massey, Jason F. Hall, Adriana Jimenez, Stephen McGee, Amy Peterson, and E.Scott Morris, who shared inspiring moments from their journeys across the city and about what makes the Detroit story so special and inspiring to both those living here and those who visit. We’re incredibly grateful to all of our partners who helped bring this convention to life and welcomed attendees in during the SATW tours, and to the SATW members who joined us in exploring Detroit from every angle from our food scene, our architecture, our outdoor spaces, our music heritage, and much more. 🎶🌳 Thank you for bringing your energy and passion for storytelling to Detroit! 🌆 📸 Photos by Brayan Gutierrez, Daniel Truscott, Charles Falsetti, and Viola Klocko for Visit Detroit #SATW #SATWConvention #TravelWriting #Detroit #VisitDetroit

  • Metro Detroit’s Saint John's Resort has been named the No. 1 Best Hotel in Michigan by U.S. News & World Report! 🏆 Not only that, but in the 2025 rankings the Plymouth resort also earned the top spot as No. 1 Best Resort in Michigan and No. 1 Best Business Hotel in Michigan. 🎉 Across 200 acres, Saint John’s combines Romanesque Revival architecture with modern luxury. Converted from a seminary the resort has been undergoing a $50 million renovation that’s transformed it into one of the most elegant destinations in the state. When visiting you can experience Five Steakhouse, Doyle's Irish Pub with its expansive outdoor lawn, and The Wine Grotto Bar, an underground bar featuring 150+ wines. The resort also offers a four-season Garden Pavilion and an indoor outdoor atrium overlooking the grounds. 🍽️🍷🍻 In June 2025, Saint John’s unveiled the crown jewel of their renovation: the Monarch Ballroom. This 24,000 sq. ft. event space features indoor and outdoor areas with sweeping glass walls and capacity for up to 1,500 guests, making it one of Metro Detroit’s premier wedding and event venues. Saint John's is also home to The Cardinal, Metro Detroit’s first public championship course in over 20 years. The course recently hosted the LIV Golf Team Championship that cemented its place on the national golf stage. ⛳️ Learn more about experiencing Saint John’s Resort here! ➡️ https://bit.ly/4fvmRP9
